PDP Caucus Demands Prosecution Of NCC Officials Over Electoral Act Bill

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Caucus in the House of Representatives has called on the appropriate authorities to arrest and prosecute officials of the National Communications Commission (NCC) for claiming that electronic transmission of results by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was not possible in the country.

Daily Trust reports that NCC Officials led by Executive Director, Ubale Maska, who represented the Executive Vice Chairman, Prof. Umaru Garba Danbatta, while testifying before the House, on the adoption of electronic transmission of results from the units, claimed that the 2018 Technical Report of the NCC showed that only about “50 percent of the polling units had 3G while 49 percent had 2G network and below.”

But the PDP Caucus Leader, Rep Kingsley Chinda, in a statement issued yesterday in Abuja, said the NCC officials lied to Nigerians while on oath and as such, must be prosecuted for allegedly misleading Nigerians.

Fresh Crisis Brews In Zamfara APC As Yari Rejects Interim C’ttee

Fresh crisis is brewing in the Zamfara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as former governor of the state, Abdul’aziz Yari, has rejected the newly appointed caretaker committee in the state.

The APC Caretaker/Extraordinary National Convention Planning Committee last week inaugurated a three-man caretaker committee to run the party’s affairs and resolve internal wrangling following the defection of Governor Bello Matawalle to the APC and dissolution of the party’s executive at all levels in the state.

But Yari, who was leader of the APC in the state before Matawalle’s defection and emergence as state leader of the party, has rejected the role of the committee as directed by the national leadership.

100 Captives Rescued In Zamfara – Police

The Police in Zamfara have rescued 100 captives abducted by bandits in the Dansadau area of Maru Local government council of Zamfara State.

The captives reportedly spent more than 40 days in bandits’ den before they were rescued on Monday. Repentant bandits were said to facilitated their release through a mediation brokered by the state government.

Police spokesperson in the state, SP Mohammed Shehu, told the BBC that their captors abducted the victims at Manawa village on June 8, and kept them at Kabaru forest for over 40 days. He further said that though out of 100 persons, rescued only 80 are with the security agents so far. “The remaining 20 couldn’t make it to Gusau as they’re sick therefore we handed them over to their families who’ll take care of them.”

Labour To Picket FIRS Offices Nationwide Over Sealing Of Secretariat

The Nigeria Civil Service Union (NCSU) says it has resolved to commence picketing of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) offices nationwide next Monday, July 26, over the management’s decision to seal the union’s unit secretariat.

NCSU also said its decision to embark on a nationwide protest arose from the “illegal” deduction of its members’ check-off dues which are accruable to the union and other contentious issues with the management.

These were contained in a formal notice signed by Ibzimakor Nnubia, the union’s Deputy General Secretary on behalf of General Secretary, Yahya Ndako, a copy of which was obtained by Daily Trust on Tuesday.

Buhari Vows To Fish Out Troublemakers, As FG Moves To Extradite Igboho

President Muhammadu Buhari has assured Nigerians that more efforts would be made to fish out those troubling the peace of the nation and citizens. He gave the assurance hours after the arrest of Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, aka Sunday Igboho.

The International Criminal Police Organisation (Interpol) arrested Igboho in Cotonou, Benin Republic.

Buhari, who did not make direct reference to Igboho’s arrest, gave the assurance at his residence in Daura, Katsina State, after the Eid-el-Kabir prayers.
