Drama As Kano Govt ‘Probes’ Anti-Corruption Agency
A conflict is currently brewing in Kano between the state government and the chairman of state’s Public Complaints and Anti-corruption Commission (PCACC), Muhuyi Magaji Rimin-Gado, following a probe instituted by the commission on contracts said to be linked with some family members of Governor Abdullahi Ganduje.
Reports said the anti-graft commission’s recent decision to investigate some projects including the Cancer Centre and the supply of diesel had pitted it against some members of the first family.
Rimin-Gado, who confirmed the investigation, however, said it is not targeted against any member of the first family but the commission would leave no stone unturned. There are reports on the alleged move of Ganduje to remove Rimin-Gado. The governor is said to be mounting pressure on the State Assembly to investigate him.
Hisbah Bans Use Of Mannequin To Display Clothes In Kano
The Kano State Hisbah Board has banned the use of mannequins to display clothes by tailors, supermarkets and boutique owners.
The Commander-General of the board, Shaikh Harun Ibn Sina, made this known in a statement issued to Daily Trust on Wednesday.
Shaikh Ibn Sina said the use of mannequins by tailors, supermarkets and others contravened Islamic injunctions. He added that the board would embark on sensitisation of the public to educate them on how Islam frowns at the use of mannequins. He said after sensitisation, the board would embark on raiding of those places to remove the mannequins, describing their use for advert purposes as idolatry.
Traders, Experts Worry As Naira Free Fall Continues
The Naira has failed to appreciate as the United States dollar sells for N500+ with traders and experts calling on the federal government to take urgent actions in saving the economy from total collapse.
As the prices of crude oil keep rising in the international market, there were expectations that the naira will appreciate, but Nigeria’s foreign exchange (forex) reserve continued to trend downwards.
Prices of basic necessities including drugs, food, automobiles, spare parts and raw materials for industries have continued to rise with attendant negative effects on the purchasing power of the citizens.
Nigerians Are The Problem Of This Country – Buhari
President Muhammadu Buhari has said that Nigerians are the problem of Nigeria, ruling out the influence of ethnicity and religion.
Buhari said this while receiving members of the Muhammadu Buhari/Osinbajo (MBO) Dynamic Support Group, who visited State House, Abuja, to present a compendium of five years achievements of the administration.
The president reflected on the complexities of the Nigerian condition and resolved that neither ethnicity nor religion was to blame “but we ourselves” for inherent injustices.
We Can’t Get You Out Of Prison, Britain Dashes Hope Of Nnamdi Kanu
The hope of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), regaining freedom through British intervention has been dashed.
Kanu, a holder of Nigerian and British passports, is currently being held at the Department of State Services (DSS) custody in Abuja.
He was arrested in Kenya on Saturday and extradited to Nigeria the next day. Kanu, who was standing treason trial, was granted bail on health grounds in 2017 but he violated all the bail conditions before fleeing the country.
FG Writes Western Diplomats, Lists ‘Atrocities’ Of Nnamdi Kanu
The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mr Nnamdi Kanu, orchestrated the killing of 60 persons and the destruction of property in 55 attacks across the South East and South South within four months.
The Federal Government stated this in a letter to western diplomats. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the letter dated April 26, 2021 detailed the atrocities committed by members of IPOB on the alleged instruction of Kanu who was then in exile.
NAN also reports that one of the attachments to the letter listed the attacks on lives and property by IPOB in some parts of the country between January and April 2021. With several Kanu’s broadcasts from Europe, there were concerns in official quarters that some western countries were justifying IPOB’s violent acts under the guise of the group’s pursuit of self-determination.
