Zamfara Deputy Governor refuses to dump PDP, as Governor Matawalle emerges leader of APC

Governor Bello Matawalle defects to APC

Governor Bello Matawalle of Zamfara State has been declared the leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Zamfara State.

Alhaji Mai Mala Buni, the National Caretaker Committee Chairman of the APC, announced the dissolution of the Zamfara APC executive council and handed over the party to Matawalle.

Former Governor Abdulaziz Yari who also spoke at the event held at the Trade Fair Complex Gusau, also said he had accepted the decision of the APC and is ready to offer all necessary support to Governor Matawalle to succeed.

“We will support the state governor and I want remind him to be wary of sycophants so that the cordial relationship being enjoyed will not be truncated.”

Governor Matawalle in his statement said; “As from today, I have dumped the Peoples Demicratic Party and join the All Progressive Congress.

“I am now the leader of APC in Zamfara State and I am ready to work with each and everyone wishing to contribute to the rapid development of this state.”

At the rally were top APC personalities including the Secretary to Federal Government, Boss Mustafa, and the Senior Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on Media, Malam Garba Shehu, governors Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi State, Simon Lalong of Plateau State, Aminu Bello Masari of Katina State, Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, Badaru Abubakar of Jugawa State, Babagana Zulum of Yobe State, Nasiru El Rufai, of Kaduna State, Yahaya Bello of Kogi State, Abubakar Bello of Niger State and former Governor of Borno State, Ali Modu Shariff.

All 24 members of the State House of Assembly, all three senators and six out of the seven members of the Federal House of Representatives defected alongside the governor.

However, the Deputy Governor, Barrister Mahdi Aliyu Gusau and a member of the Federal House of Representatives representing Anka/Talata-Mafara Federal Constituency, Kabiru Mafara remained in the PDP.
