Buhari Appoints Maj Gen Farouk Yahaya As Chief Of Army Staff
President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed Major General Farouk Yahaya as Chief of Army Staff.
Brigadier-General Onyema Nwachukwu, Acting Director, Defence Information, announced this in a statement on Thursday.
Yahaya was the General Officer Commanding 1 Division of the Nigerian Army and the incumbent Theatre Commander of the Counter terrorism Counter Insurgency military outfit code named Operation HADIN KAI, according to the statement. The appointment comes six days after the death of General Ibrahim Attahiru, the former Chief of Army Staff.
Retirement Dangles On 30 Generals As Buhari Appoints Yahaya COAS
Retirement is dangling on 30 Army Generals who are members of courses 35 and 36 of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) following the appointment of Major-General Farouk Yahaya, who is of course 37 as the new Chief of Army Staff (COAS).
In the military tradition, if a junior General is appointed as the army chief, Generals who are his seniors are retired.
President Muhammadu Buhari, Thursday, named Yahaya, who hails from Sokoto State as the replacement for the late Army Chief, Lt.-Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru.
Governor’s Aide, Chinese National Arrested Over Vandalism Of Railway Tracks
The Nasarawa State Command of the Nigeria Police Force said it has apprehended the Special Adviser on infrastructure to Governor Abdullahi Sule and Chinese national over the vandalism of railway tracks and slippers in Lafia and Keana local government areas of the state.
Also arrested were 66 suspected kidnappers and armed robbers, who “have been terrorising the citizen of the state and its environs”.
Parading the governor’s aide at the command headquarters on Thursday alongside other suspected kidnappers and armed robbers, the commissioner of Police, Mr. Bola Longe, said all the suspects were arrested through the command’s developed strategic anti-vandalism template.
Only Restructuring Can Prevent Nigeria’s Disintegration — Ohanaeze
President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Prof George Obiozor, has said that only restructuring can prevent Nigeria from disintegration.
He described the country’s present challenges as a political tragedy waiting to manifest at any time, adding however that it was not too late to salvage it.
Obiozor who spoke on Thursday at the second day of the public hearing on the review of the constitution for South East Zone, in Owerri noted that the 1999 constitution has caged many Nigerians preventing them from developing their potentials.
COVID-19: FG Declares Additional 132 Wanted For Violating Quarantine Laws
The Federal Government has declared additional 132 persons wanted for violating COVID-19 guidelines.
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) and Chairman Presidential Steering Committee (PSC) on COVID-19, Boss Mustapha, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday night.
This is coming on the heels of Sunday declaration of 90 persons wanted for same offence. Daily Trust reports that unlike the Sunday list which contained 63 Nigerians and 27 foreigners; the second batch of 132 persons comprising 75 males and 57 females are all Nigerians who arrived the country through the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA), Abuja.
