Ayade joins APC, says his state wants to work with President Buhari. PDP bids him farewell

Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River State on Thursday defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

He announced his defeaction following a meeting with 6 governors of the APC in Calabar.

The governor who were in Calabar to welcome him into APC are Governors of; Ekiti, Kayode Fayemi; Jigawa, Mohammed Badaru; Yobe, Mai Mala Buni; Kebbi, Abubakar Bagudu; Imo, Hope Uzodimma; and Plateau, Simon Lalong, as well as the Minister of State for Petroleum, Timipre Silva.

Speaking during the defection, Governor Ayade said; “We need to join hands with President Buhari in his determination to enhance the fortunes of the country.

“I need all governors to similarly join me and understand my decision to join the APC.

“We need to work ahead with the President for the future and unity of Nigeria. We all need to sit on the same dining table with Mr President to save Nigeria.

“It is my responsibility to bring back Cross River to the centre in order to enhance her fortunes.

“I, therefore, formally declare myself as a member and leader of the APC in Cross River State.”

Reacting to his defection, the PDP bid him farewell and also urged members of the party to remain united.

This was contained in a statement titled; ‘Ayade: PDP Urges Members in Cross Rivers State to Remain United’ issued by the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Kola Ologbondiyan.

“Our party calls on all critical stakeholders and teeming members of our party in Cross Rivers State to immediately pull together and ensure that all structures of our party in the state remain intact.

“The @OfficialPDPNig wishes Governor Ayade well in his new political sojourn as well as in his future endeavours.”
