NERC Begins Multiple Electricity Tariff Reviews

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has opened a 21 day window for comments by stakeholders as it tries to conclude the extraordinary review and the minor review of the Multi Year tariff Order (MYTO) 2020.

According to the notice endorsed by NERC Chairman, Engr. Sanui Garba and published on Monday, the Commission said the process is for the tariffs of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) and the 11 Distribution Companies (DisCos).

“Stakeholders and the general public are invited to send their comments to the Commission within 21 days from the date of this publication,” said NERC.

How Fighter Jet, Boko Haram Killed 33 Soldiers In Mainok

At least 33 soldiers including an officer were killed on Sunday by Boko Haram fighters and an air force fighter jet in Mainok, Borno State, credible sources said.

It was learnt that a fighter jet of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) mistakenly targeted ground forces heading to Mainok town, 55 kilometres to Maiduguri to repel invading terrorists loyal to the Islamic State of West Africa Providence (ISWAP).

Sources said while many Boko Haram fighters who disguised as friendly Nigerian soldiers penetrated the military Super Camp in Mainok and inflicted serious damage on troops and equipment, the fighter jet bombed a gun truck conveying some soldiers on a rescue mission. A video of the incident is already trending online.

The Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, has promised not to sit idle and allow his “hard-earned” reputation dragged to the mud by some “paid agents” linking him with terror groups.

The minister’s reaction is coming in the wake of an alleged plot by unnamed individuals to release “some doctored” videos purportedly showing the minister in an alleged compromising position.

The minister, in a statement by his spokesperson, Uwa Suleiman, said he is not unaware of well-coordinated and richly funded campaign against him.

Our New Constitution For Nigeria Ready Oct 30 — NCFront

Leaders of thoughts under the aegis of the National Consultative Front (NCFront) have said the group is on course towards delivering a new people’s constitution for Nigeria.

Speaking with Daily Trust on Monday, the National Secretary of the NCFront, Veteran Wale Okunniyi, said the committee’s work is on-going and assured that the committee is on course.

According to him, the sub-committee is expected to come up with the draft by the end of May while a conference would be held where the draft would be discussed.

Secondus Accused Of N10bn Fraud In Fresh Crisis Rocking PDP

A fresh crisis has hit the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the Prince Uche Secondus-led National Working Committee (NWC) of the party has been accused of mismanagement of N10bn generated from the sale of forms for four years.

The country’s anti-corruption agencies, EFCC and ICPC have been petitioned by one of the chieftains of the party over the matter.

The petitioner, Prince Kassim Afegbua, alleged that the leadership has mismanaged close to N10bn which accrued from the sale of nomination forms for the presidential, gubernatorial, house of assembly and senatorial elections from 2017 to date. Responding to the petitioner, the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Kola Ologbondiyan, described the claim as “spurious” and “irresponsible”.

Gunmen Kill 40 In Anambra, Imo, Kebbi, Rivers

No fewer than 40 persons, including four soldiers, 14 policemen, two vigilantes and 19 herders were killed on Monday in fresh attacks by gunmen in Anambra, Imo, Kebbi, Rivers and Kebbi States.

They attackers invaded Ukpomachi village, Awkuzu in Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State and reportedly killed 19 persons believed to be herders, killed 23 cows and destroyed property worth millions of naira.

Chairman, Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, South East Zone, Gidado Sidikki, said the 19 victims include children. “As I speak to you now, the dead bodies are with us at Amasea community in Awka North local government area. Children between 1 and 2 years old, whose parents were killed in the attack, are currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital in the state”, Sidikki stated.
