Buni’s Whereabouts Unknown As Boko Haram’s Havoc On Geidam Enters Day Three

The whereabouts of Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State have been unknown since Boko Haram insurgents swooped on Geidam on Friday.

It’s unclear if Buni is in the state or in Abuja where he usually spends most of the time attending to issues of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), which he chairs. Buni has been in charge of APC since Adams Oshiomhole was sacked by a court.

Many residents of Geidam have been on the run since Boko Haram insurgents and the military exchanged firepower on Friday. After airstrikes by the military, the insurgents beat retreat but they returned hours later and have been wreaking havoc on the town since then. About 11 persons of the same family were reportedly killed as a result of an explosive that struck their home at Saminaka Area close to military camp in Geidam.

Boko Haram Attacks Borno Town, Mainok

Boko Haram insurgents on Sunday attacked Mainok in Borno State.

Mainok, located on the Maiduguri – Damaturu Highway, is 55 kilometres away from Maiduguri, the state capital. Mainok is the headquarters of the Kaga Local Government Area of Borno State.

It is gathered that the insurgents are setting houses ablaze and breaking shops in the town. Daily Trust had gathered that the insurgents in a convoy of between 15 and 20 vehicles were seen near Mainok town on Sunday afternoon.

Bandits Break Into Church In Kaduna, Kill Worshipper

At least one worshipper was shot dead after suspected bandits invaded a church in Chukun Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

Details of the incident which happened on Sunday morning are still sketchy but Daily Trust gathered that some worshippers were abducted while others sustained injuries.

Chukun has been under siege by bandits and all efforts to secure residents have not yielded the desired result.

B/Haram Financing: No Secret Trial For Arrested BDC Operators, Ndume Tells FG

Chairman, Senate Committee on Army, Senator Ali Ndume, has expressed reservations over the secret trial of Bureau de Change (BDC) operators arrested for allegedly funding Boko Haram terrorists.

Ndume (APC, Borno South) urged the Federal Government to expose the identities of all the BDC operators so far arrested and try them in public.

Daily Trust had exclusively reported that some Bureau De Change operators facilitating the transfer of money to Boko Haram terrorists had been arrested.

Nigeria Facing Asymmetric, Emerging Security Threats – Defence Minister

The Minister of Defence, General Bashir Salihi Magashi (rtd), has said that the Nigerian nation in the last few years is being challenged by asymmetric and emerging security threats, kidnapping and economic sabotage.

Retired General Magashi spoke through the Chief of Defence Staff, General Leo Irabor, at the passing out parade of Batch 30 trainee cadets and ratings of the Nigerian Navy at the Nigerian Naval College, Onne, Rivers State.

He said the Nigerian Navy has continued to spearhead internal security in the Niger Delta region and part of the southwest against militants, pirates, operators of illegal refineries and crude oil theft, their sponsors and collaborators.
