Killings, Attacks On Security Formations Threaten Anambra Gov’ship Poll

There is palpable tension and panic in Anambra State as gunmen on rampage have taken over the streets, attacking security formations and killing officers, seven months to the governorship election in the state.

In the last two months, the security situation in the state has become worrisome with gunmen continuously attacking the military, police and prisons formations in the state, just as cult groups terrorise and kill their rivals as well as innocent citizens.

Voters and other people in the state have expressed worries over the possibility of conducting the governorship election in the state giving the deplorable state of insecurity.

Anger As 3 Abducted Greenfield Varsity Students Found Dead

Bandits who abducted an unspecified number of students from the Greenfield University Kaduna on Tuesday have murdered three of the students and dumped their remains near the school premises.

The killings have sparked outrage from right groups and fears among parents of some of the students abducted in the university and those of the Federal College of Forestry Mechanisation Afaka.

Daily Trust reports that the private tertiary institution established in 2019 is situated in Kasarami, about 30 kilometres from Kaduna, along the Kaduna-Abuja highway in Chikun Local Government Area of the state. Gunmen had on Tuesday at 8.30pm invaded the school premises, killed a staff and abducted about half of the student population, Daily Trust gathered. The bandits had later contacted some of the parents demanding for N800 million for the release of the students.

Police Arrest 5 Over Violence In Enugu Market

The Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, Mr Mohammed Aliyu has said that the police have arrested five suspects in connection with the violent disturbances at New Artisan Market, Enugu.

Also, the commissioner said that he has ordered an investigation into the incident to bring to justice all miscreants whose acts of violence disrupted human and economic activities at the market. Spokesman of the police in the state, ASP Daniel Ndukwe, said this in a statement issued yesterday in Enugu.

Daily Trust Saturday reports that traders at the market, majority of them of Northern origin, had on Thursday, crippled commercial activities in the market, as they staged a protest against the state government’s plan to relocate them to another area.

Boko Haram Attacks Geidam

Gunmen suspected to be Boko Haram members have attacked the town of Geidam in Yobe.

It was gathered that the insurgents in eight vehicles and carrying weapons invaded the town around 6pm.

A resident of the town who spoke to our correspondent over the phone said, “Their motorcade moved straight to the location of Kafela primary school as they started sporadic shooting. We are currently indoors praying for our safety, that’s all I can say for now”

Uzodinma Rejects Secession Calls, Wants Politicians Sponsoring Insecurities Named

Governor Hope Uzodimma on Friday kicked against the calls for the balkanization of the country by separatist movements in some parts of the country.

Governor Uzodimma spoke at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, while fielding questions from State House reporters after a closed-door meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari. The governor, who expressed his disposition to a more united indivisible Nigeria no matter the current circumstances prevailing against the nation, said Nigeria’s strength laid in its diversity especially as the country continues to play a leading role on the continent.

“what they are doing is to sponsor crisis, to the extent that those funding this banditry are politicians, which I challenge and call on security agencies to make their names available to the press because what they want to do is to distract a government that is focused.”
