Niger State PDP affirms former Governor Aliyu’s suspension

Ex-Governor Babangida Aliyu of Niger State

The Niger State chapter of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has affirmed the suspension of former Governor Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu for his role in undermining the election of former President Goodluck Jonathan in 2015.

The PDP spokesman for the three senatorial district of Niger State, Mallam Yahaya Mohammed Usman, reaffirmed support for Babangida’s suspension.

The former Governor had admitted that he worked against ex-President Jonathan because he decided to contest the 2015 election after he had allegedly agreed to serve only one term and step down in the next election after winning the 2011 presidency. He alleged that the 19 Northern Governors in 2015 worked against Jonathan.

“We have been vindicated, we had told Nigerians and indeed Nigerlites that Dr. Aliyu betrayed us and worked for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

“He betrayed the Party, President Goodluck Jonathan and our Governorship candidate, Alhaji Umar Nasko. We have said it and we head it that he donated funds to the opposition party”.

“We reaffirm the elevation of former Deputy Governor, Dr. Shem Nuhu Zagbayi as new leader for Aliyu’s Zone,” he stated.

He supported the position of Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State who noted that former Governor Babangida Aliyu owes the PDP an apology.

“So we were campaigning not knowing you (Dr Aliyu) was undermining us, and then you also ran for the senate in that election and lost, Aliyu Babangida owes an apology to the PDP”, Wike stated while speaking on a live interview on African Independent Television (AIT).
