APC still a ‘mixture’ of political parties –Ganduje
Kano State Governor, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, on Monday lamented that the ruling All Progressives Congress still remains a mixture of political parties.
He said the party had yet to move to the next level of graduating from a “mixture” to a “compound.”
The governor spoke on Monday at a town hall meeting organised by the APC Constitutional Review Committee for the North West held in Kano. Ganduje said, “The APC as a party started as a mixture of the ACN, ANPP, APGA, PDP, CPC. That is a mixture of various elements trying to make a compound. But unfortunately, up till now, the APC is still a ‘mixture’ and has not graduated to the next level to become a ‘compound.’
Jonathan in Bauchi, recalls aides deserted him after poll loss
Former President Goodluck Jonathan on Tuesday said some of his aides and allies abandoned him after leaving office even as he described Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, as a trusted “son” whose loyalty is unparalleled.
Jonathan spoke while inaugurating the 6.25Km Sabon Kaura-Jos bypass road constructed by the Bauchi State government at the cost of N2.2 billion.
He commended Mohammed for standing by him even after he left office, saying that the invitation to inaugurate the first legacy project in the state and immortalising him through the road project is a big honour to him which he would live to remember.
Fasoranti, Ondo monarchs declare support for Tinubu
An elder statesman, Chief Reuben Fasoranti, on Tuesday declared his support for the national leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu, ahead of the 2023 presidential election.
He described Tinubu as a qualified Nigerian who has all it takes to govern the country.
Fasoranti spoke when Tinubu supporters in the five South-West states under the auspices of the South-West Agenda for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu paid him a courtesy visit in his residence in Akure, the Ondo state capital.
US classifies El-Zakzaky, wife as political prisoners
The United States has classified the leader of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria, Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, and his wife, Zeenah, as political prisoners.
This is according to the 2020 Country Reports on Human Rights Practices issued by the US State Department on Tuesday.
The report read in part, “Political prisoners and detainees. IMN’s leader, Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky, and his spouse remained in detention. In 2018 the Kaduna State Government charged Zakzaky in state court with multiple felonies stemming from the death of a soldier at Zaria.”
You’re not elected to complain of ex-leaders, CAN tells Buhari
The Christian Association of Nigeria on Tuesday berated the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), describing him as incompetent.
The CAN also described the current administration as being religiously biased.
The President of the association, Samson Ayokunle, said this in Abeokuta, Ogun state capital while speaking at the Holy Convocation organised by the Victory Life Bible Church. He said about the President, “We put you there to secure the nation; we didn’t put you there to be complaining about bad leaders. The criminals are behaving more professional than the regular law enforcement agents. You were complaining about past leaders; we knew that the past leaders didn’t do well and we approach you to make change.”
NNPC targets 18-month completion, signs $1.5bn Port Harcourt refinery repair contract
The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation on Tuesday officially signed the contract with Tecnimont SPA for the $1.5bn rehabilitation programme of the Port Harcourt Refining Company.
Parties in the agreement also announced the commencement of the project following the signing of the contract at the headquarters of the corporation in Abuja. At the virtual contract signing event, the Group Managing Director, NNPC, Mele Kyari, explained that the agreement was basically between PHRC and Tecnimont SPA.
He said the contract was for the provision of engineering, procurement, construction, installation and commissioning services for the refinery rehabilitation project.
MASSOB accuses FG of sponsoring attacks on South-East
The Movement for Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra has accused the Federal Government of sponsoring recent attacks on South-East
MASSOB leader, Uchenna Madu, said this in a statement made available to journalists in Awka, the Anambra State capital.
He said MASSOB’s intelligence showed that the attacks were perpetrated by “protected bandits” sponsored by the Federal Government. Madu added that the purpose was to create a situation that pro-Biafra agitators had become violent and therefore, should be chastised.
Panic as bombs hit gunmen’s hideouts, FG goes after IPOB
There was panic among residents of the Essien Udim Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State on Tuesday as the military bombarded the Ikot Akpan forest in the area.
The PUNCH learnt that the military operation was aimed at flushing out hoodlums who had been attacking police formations in the state. Residents, who share boundaries with hoodlums’ hideouts, told one of our correspondents that the bombing of the forest started at 8am and ended at 12 noon on Tuesday.
The military exercise came barely 24 hours after gunmen attacked the Imo State police command headquarters and the Nigerian Correctional Service in Owerri, the state capital, where 1,844 inmates were freed.
