Military Yet To Submit Estimates For Arms – FG

The Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Hajiya Zainab Ahmed, says the non-submission of the military hardware estimates by the defence ministry is responsible for the delay in the submission of supplementary budget for procurement of military equipment and COVID-19 vaccines to the National Assembly.

Hajiya Zainab said this while fielding questions from State House reporters after the weekly Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting presided over by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.

The minister, while reacting to a question on the plan to send a supplementary budget to the National Assembly, said her ministry had met with the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Lucky Irabor and the three service chiefs on the urgent need to have the estimates for the military hardware to be purchased.

He said they initially demanded N15 million but after negotiation, the kidnappers agreed to collect N10 million.

“We have already gathered and submitted N5 million to the kidnappers. But when we got to the place they directed us to go and pick our people, they only brought four dead bodies of them. When we asked them why they killed them, they said we must give the agreed N10 million for them to release our father and the other nine people, or else they will also tell us where to go and pick their corpses. We couldn’t even carry the corpses because they had already decomposed. We had to bury them there,” he said.

Abaribe: Nobody Takes Buhari Seriously, Not Even Service Chiefs

The Senate Minority Leader, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, says the marching orders President Muhammadu Buhari gives on insecurity are empty as no one takes him seriously.

In an interview on Channels Television, he alleged that handling of the nation’s security is very poor. Before his medical trip to the UK, Buhari had ordered the service chiefs to fish out bandits and their sponsors.

But Abaribe said such orders mean nothing, even to the service chiefs. “Why would we take him (President Muhammadu Buhari) seriously? Just the day after he had said we would no longer accept all these kidnappings, this would be the last, they kidnapped again. And those people are still there; those innocent Nigerians are still in captivity up till now. He always makes a statement. Every time these things happen, nothing happens. So it is obvious nobody takes him seriously with that. Even the military chiefs, I don’t think they bother themselves,” he said.

Garba Shehu: Why Buhari Didn’t Transmit Power To Osinbajo

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu, has explained why President Muhammadu Buhari did not transmit power to Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo before heading to London. Buhari is currently in London for a “routine” medical check-up.

He said the president will carry on with his duties from where he is at the moment.
