2023 Presidency should go to the South. It is a covenant between our political party – Governor Zulum

Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, Governor of Borno State

Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State on Thursday said that the 2023 presidency should be zoned to the southern part of the nation.

He noted that there is a covenant among political leaders of the ruling party (All Progressives Congress) that the presidency would be zoned to the South in 2023 upon expiration of President Muhammadu Buhari’s tenure.

Governor Zulum who spoke in Abuja during the presentation of a public lecture on the topic, ‘Security and Economic Growth: Leadership in Challenging Times’, at a book launch, called on the APC to keep the agreement made to shift power to the South to enhance political stability.

“I have advocated for power shift to the South, and I am not saying this so that I will become the vice president.

“Although it is not enshrined in the constitution, power rotation is a covenant between our political party and as a devout Muslim it should be kept.”

The book titled, ‘Strategic Turnaround, Story of a Government Agency’, was authored by a former Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dakuku Peterside.
