Governor Ortom says he ran over 1KM to escape assassination, meets IGP

Governor Samuel Ortom and IGP

Governor Samuel Ortom of Wednesday met with the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, following Saturday’s assassination attempt on him.

The governor had on Saturday raised an alarm of an assassination attempt on his life while he was visiting his farm along Makurdi-Gboko Road.

According to the governor, he ran one kilometre to escape his assassination.

A group identified as the Fulani Nationality Movement had since claimed responsibility for the attack on Ortom’s life, saying that he escaped only due to some technical error.

What is however more shocking is the fact that security agencies, the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services (DSS) are silent (perhaps working behind the scene).

The governor had on Tuesday met with President Muhammadu Buhari to brief him on the incident.

The spokesperson for the NPF, Frank Mba, confirmed that the IGP met with Governor Ortom in Abuja.

“It is true that Governor Samuel Ortom and IGP Adamu met this (Wednesday) morning in Abuja,” he told Punch.

“The governor came to the meeting with a formal petition on the incident which he submitted to the IGP.

“IGP Adamu has treated the petition expeditiously. He has directed the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Intelligence Bureau, Tijjani Baba, to continue investigation into the matter.

“You know that we (the police) have already started handling the matter even before the governor submitted the petition.”
