The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has revealed that it is working towards remaining in power for at least 32 years.
Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State, who is the Chairman of the APC Caretaker/Extra-Ordinary National Convention Planning Committee, stated this while inaugurating the party’s 61-member Contact and Strategy Committee at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja on Tuesday.
According to Governor Buni, the APC needs to be in power long enough to consolidate on the delivery of dividends of democracy.
“The constitution of the Strategy and Contact Committee, therefore, is to consolidate the achievements we are making in building a strong party with a solid structure that would accomplish APC to stand the test of time.
“Our vision is to provide a wheel that will drive the party to go beyond 6th, 7th and even 8th terms of office to effectively implement the party manifesto, improve the lives of Nigerians and to remain Nigeria’s leading political party.
“This committee is therefore very key to our process of transition towards successful congresses and national convention and to establish a very solid, reputable and reliable future for the party.”
The 61-member high-powered committee is chaired by the Governor of Jigawa State, Badaru Abubakar, who promised that the committee would take necessary steps to achieve its objectives.
Reacting to the APC, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, said that Nigerians can’t wait to sack the ruling party in 2023.
“Nigerians can’t wait for 2023 to chase this thieving gang out of power. No Nigerian, except the very few who are benefiting from the ongoing institutional corruption, will pray for this regime to stay one day longer than 2023.”
