Amaechi told me I was next in his life after God — Wike
Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has said God used him to make the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, the state governor in 2007, claiming that the Amaechi said he was next in his life after God.
He said the minister had stated in a church that he (Wike) came next in his life after God and told him to freely choose any position in his government having played a key role in the Amaechi’s emergence as governor.
The governor further said Amaechi wanted to appoint him as commissioner, but that he rejected it to take the position of Chief of Staff. Wike said this in an interview with BBC Pidgin in Port Harcourt, the state capital, monitored by our correspondent.
Ortom’s attempted assassination: Govs, Middle Belt, others express anger, IGP dispatches special probe squad
Prominent groups in the country, including the Middle Belt Forum, the Arewa Consultative Forum and the Northern Governors’ Forum on Sunday condemned Saturday’s assassination attempt on the Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom.
As the groups, in separate interviews with The PUNCH, condemned the attack, the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, on Sunday ordered a full-scale investigation into the incident.
Ortom had on Saturday said suspected herdsmen numbering about 15 attacked him in his farm at Tyo-Mu community, near Makurdi, the state capital. He attributed the attack to his campaign against killer herdsmen, who had been attacking farmers in the state and other parts of the country.
Oshiomhole govt probe not a witch-hunt — Obaseki
Edo State Governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki, has vowed to continue the probe of the administration of his predecessor and his estranged godfather, Adams Oshiomhole.
Obaseki, while speaking at the victory party for Chief Dan Orbih, the PDP Vice-Chairman South-South, at the home of a former PDP BoT Chairman, Chief Anthony Anenih, in Benin, said his administration must probe Oshiomhole and recover all stolen funds.
He said his victory at the Appeal Court was as a result of prayers and support from Edo people.
NANS endorsement of Umahi, a mockery, says PDP
THE Fred Udeogu-led Caretaker Committee of the Ebonyi State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has described the endorsement of Governor David Umahi for the 2023 presidential race by the National Association of Nigerian Students as a mockery.
A statement by the state PDP Publicity Secretary, Silas Onu, on Sunday said NANS simply made a mockery of itself by endorsing a man who had zero empathy for the plight of students.
NANS at its 65th Emergency Senate meeting held at the Ecumenical Centre, Abakaliki, endorsed Umahi as their choice for the 2023 presidential race.
2023: Buhari won’t hand over to Tinubu, says Ayo Adebanjo
The new leader of the pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, says the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), won’t hand over power to the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu.
He said this in an exclusive interview with SUNDAY PUNCH, noting that Buhari and Tinubu are deceiving themselves.
Adebanjo also tackled Tinubu, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, and APC governors in the South-West for being silent on the restructuring of the country.
