Wike, Fintiri reconcile Ortom, Mohammed in Port Harcourt, Rivers State

The problem between Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State and his Bauchi counterpath, Bala Mohammed, over Fulani herders profiling has been resolved amicably.

Ortom and Mohammed was settled in a meeting held at Governor Nyesom Wike’s residence at Rumuepirikom, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.

Wike’s aide, Kelvin Ebiri, said that the conflict was resolved following Governor Wike’s intervention.

Governor Mohammed in his statement after the meeting said the problem between him and Ortom was regrettable.

“I want to seize this opportunity to tell Nigerians that whatever misconception that is there; that my brother, Ortom, and I are having problem is not true.

“What happened was just an explanation that emanated from a larger Governors’ Forum that we spoke on the security of the nation and we talked of the failure of security infrastructure which everybody knows is under the purview of the Federal Government,” Mohammed added.

The problem started when Governor Mohammed stated that Fulani herdsmen carry AK-47 rifle to defend themselves from cattle rustlers. The Bauchi Governor further berated Southern-Governors especially Governor Ortom for attacking herdsmen.

Governor Ortom in his own statement thanked Wike and Governor Ahmed Fintiri of Adamawa State for arranging the meeting.

“We have accepted that it was wrong for us to have that kind of outburst that went out, but as from today, we have learnt. We are all fallible human beings and we are subject to mistakes,” Ortom stated.

Governor Wike in his statement thanked the two governors for amicable resolving their dispute. He said; “everybody knows that the Federal Government has failed in providing security for this country. And of course, you will not blame them. They (Ortom and Mohammed) are under pressure from their various states. It is not as if they have any personal issue.”
