Police Misconduct Responsible For #EndSARS Protests — PSC
Chairman, Police Service Commission, Musiliu Smith, yesterday attributed the recent #EndSARS protests across Nigeria to misconduct of officers.
He spoke at the Force headquarters, Abuja during the opening of a one-day retreat organized by the Force in collaboration with the PSC for members of the police management team.
Smith described complaints of gross misconduct against police officers as alarming. He said given the number of cases against them, the Force might not be able to pay damages awarded by the various panels of inquiry.
Fayemi: Terrorists Have Spread To Different Parts Of The Country
Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State has blamed terrorism for the high level of insecurity in the country.
Speaking on Tuesday when he visited Minna, Niger State, over the recent abductions, Fayemi, who is the Chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum, said what Nigeria is witnessing, whether banditry or kidnapping, has no name other than terrorism. The governors held a meeting with Sani Bello, their Niger Counterpart, and pledged to stand by him during “this difficult period”.
“What we are witnessing is terrorism, there is no other name for it. We may call it banditry, kidnaping, these are the remnants of the actors in the North-East that have found themselves in other parts of the country. Whether they are known as ISWAP, Shekau faction, they are remnants of what we are still dealing with in that part of Nigeria,” Fayemi said.
Okorocha’s Sins In Imo — Uzodinma
Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State, yesterday, said he had no personal quarrel with his predecessor, Senator Rochas Okorocha.
The clash between the supporters of the governor and his predecessor led to the death of two persons on Sunday over the sealing of Royal Spring Palm Estate Hotel, Akachi, by the state government.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state is enmeshed in a crisis following the political differences and feud between Okorocha and Uzodinma. Speaking after meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the State House, the governor faulted the claims that he was plotting Okorocha’s assassination.
Niger Delta Militants Threaten To Destroy Abuja, Lagos Over Alleged Marginalisation
Niger-Delta militants, who had dropped their guns for over five years, have resurfaced and threatened to pick it up again and attack Lagos and Abuja.
The militants, under the aegis of Supreme Egbesu Liberation Fighters, in a viral video posted on Tuesday by Africa Independent Television (AIT), accused the federal government of marginalising the region and failing to deliver on the amnesty programme.
According to a masked member of the group who did not mention his name, “After accepting the amnesty pact, till date, there are no schools, no potable water, no light, no hospital and access roads for our people to enjoy”.
Confusion As Maiduguri Residents Are Shot Dead
There was confusion in Maiduguri, Borno State capital, on Tuesday evening, when armed men suspected to be Boko Haram fighters opened fire, killing some residents in the process.
Daily Trust gathered that unknown gunmen had stormed a part of the town known as Twange, shooting in different directions.
“Adam Kolo, a businessman, was among those who were killed. It was a stray bullet that hit him right inside his house,” the resident told Daily Trust.
‘You’re Mentally Ill’ – Abia Hits Smart Adeyemi For Attacking Ikpeazu
Lawmaker representing Kogi West Senatorial Zone, Senator Smart Adeyemi, on Tuesday, got knocks from Abia State Government for describing Governor Okezie Ikpeazu as a drunkard.
Governor Ikpeazu’s Chief Press Secretary, Sir Onyebuchi Ememanka, described Adeyemi as someone suffering from “protracted case of mental illness”.
Ememanka accused Adeyemi of digressing during a debate on a motion on how to protect schools across the country.
Boko Haram: Many Killed, Dozens Injured As Explosions Rock Maiduguri
Many people have been killed and scores injured on Tuesday when Boko Haram fighters launched multiple attacks on Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.
Nine boys were killed while playing football at Gwange, near the house of the late General Mamman Shuwa, when rockets landed in the area, witnesses said.
“Four people have been confirmed dead in our area, known as Adam Kolo,” said a Maiduguri based journalists, Ali Chiroma.
Military Recaptures Marte From Terrorists
The Nigerian Army says troops have complied with the directive of Chief of Army Staff, Maj.-Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru, who charged them to recapture Marte, an area in Borno State, from the hold of suspected terrorists.
The Director of Army Public Relations, Brig.-Gen. Mohammed Yerima, in a statement on Tuesday, said the troops carried out the task in less than 48 hours.
The statement read: “Troops of Nigerian Army troops this afternoon, around 3 pm, recovered New Marte and adjoining communities from the devilish Boko Haram terrorists. This is coming less than the 48 hours directive earlier given to the troops to recover the town by the Chief of Army Staff, Major General Ibrahim Attahiru.
Cyber Terrorists Causing Anxiety In Nigeria – Buhari
President Muhammadu Buhari says Nigeria is witnessing a rise in threats posed by cybercriminals, online financial fraudsters and cyber terrorists who use the internet to cause apprehension.
He said this during the launch of the National Cybersecurity Policy and Strategy 2021 at the Council Chamber of the State House, Abuja.
He called for an overhaul of the national strategy on cybersecurity with more emphasis on exploring the internet for economic growth opportunities, enhancement of knowledge and mitigation of crime.
