Miyetti Allah faction backs Bauchi gov on carrying AK-47 rifles

Herdsmen under the aegis of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore Fulani Socio-Cultural Association have risen in defence of the Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, over his comments that herders possess AK-47 rifles for self-defence.

The comment from the Bauchi governor had incurred wide criticisms and condemnations from Nigerians.

The National Secretary, Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, Mr. Saleh Alhassan, described the Bauchi State helmsman as the only lone voice among his peers in the North in defence of Fulani pastoralists being persecuted across Nigeria.

Saraki-led peace panel will succeed, says BoT

The Chairman, Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party, Senator Walid Jibrin, on Thursday, expressed confidence that the Bukola Saraki-led National Reconciliation Committee, will achieve its set objectives.

Jibrin spoke after a meeting between the Saraki Committee and members of the BoT at the PDP Legacy House, Maitama, Abuja.

He said, “We have given our own recommendations to him in order to make the report very rich. With the quality of committee members in this undertaking, we are sure that the PDP will return stronger and we will win in the 2023 election. We are giving them 100 per cent support to carry out this assignment. They are fearless. They should not fear anybody, and no issue of money should be involved in this exercise. We trust Senator Bukola Saraki.”

Fani-Kayode visits Igboho, canvasses Nigerians be permitted to carry guns

A former Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, has said Nigerians should be licensed to carry sophisticated arms like AK-47 if Fulani herdsmen are permitted to secure themselves with the same type of weapon.

He said this on Thursday when he visited Yoruba activist, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, who is popularly known as Sunday Igboho, at his residence in Ibadan.

Fani-Kayode said the best strategy to tackle the insecurity facing the nation was for the government to rise up to its responsibility to defend the people.

Popular govt critic, Junaid Mohammed, dies at 71

A 2nd Republic lawmaker and popular government critic, Dr. Junaid Mohammed, has died at the age of 71, The PUNCH has learnt.

Junaid, who was the Vice-Presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party in the last election, was said to have died in his home state of Kano on Thursday.

A brother of the deceased, Ahmed Salik, confirmed the death to DAILY NIGERIAN on Thursday night, saying the funeral would hold on Friday morning.

Minimum wage: NLC declares strike in Imo, Rivers, Osun, 15 others

The Nigeria Labour Congress has directed workers in 18 states where the national minimum wage of N30, 000 had yet to be paid to immediately proceed on strike.

The congress said about half the 36 states of the federation were yet to conclude negotiations on payment of the minimum wage.

Findings indicate that states that have not paid the minimum wage include Imo, Rivers, Osun, Ekiti, Ebonyi, Kwara, Zamfara, Gombe, Rivers and Ogun States.

ESN: MASSOB condemns military operation in Orlu

The leadership of the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra has condemned the ongoing military operation in the Orlu and Orsu local government areas of Imo State.

The MASSOB leader, Uchenna Made, told The PUNCH on Thursday in Owerri that Nigerian soldiers were finding it easy fighting innocent persons but grow cold feet in combating Boko Haram and armed Fulani herdsmen.

He said “The leadership of the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra condemns the ongoing military onslaught against the people of Biafra in the Orlu province of Biafra. MASSOB is surprised that men of the Nigerian military can exhibit these high skills of both land and aerial combatant in a peaceful city like Orlu.

PDP demands Magashi’s sacking for asking Nigerians to confront bandits

The Peoples Democratic Party has demanded for the immediate sacking of the Minister of Defence, Maj. Gen. Bashir Magashi (retd.), for allegedly abdicating his statutory responsibility and asking unarmed Nigerians to defend themselves against bandits.

The main opposition party flayed a statement credited to the Magashi who reportedly urged Nigerians to stop being cowards and confront the bandits. The minister equally enjoined Nigerians not to carry arms while doing so.

In a statement titled, ‘Abdication: PDP demands defence minister’s sacking’, which was signed by the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Kola Ologbondiyan, in Abuja, on Thursday, the party described the minister’s comments as reckless and irresponsible.
