Islamic cleric sues Ganduje, four others over preaching ban

The embattled Kano Cleric, Abduljabar Kabara, has dragged Governor Abdullah Ganduje to the Federal High Court over infringement of his fundamental right to life, conscience and religion.

The cleric is also seeking an order of perpetual injunction restraining Ganduje, the Commissioner of Police in Kano and other states agents from oppressing, harassing and imposing any inhibition on him henceforth.

Recall that the Kano State Government last week barred Kabara from preaching and promoting an ideology the government considered to be provocative and inciteful to peace and security. Challenging the action of the government in a motion of notice filed before the court in Kano, Kabara insisted that his right to freedom of expression, movement and peaceful assembly were being violated.

One of the children of the Nobel Laurel, Dr. Olaokun Soyinka, in a statement issued on Wednesday confirmed the incident. He, however, refuted the rumour following a viral video clip on the social media that his father’s estate was attacked by Fulani herdsmen.

Fani-Kayode approached me on planned defection to APC – Bello

The Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, has said a former aviation minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress.

In a video shot during an APC event in Kogi and shared on Wednesday, Bello said the defection was one of his achievements as the head of the youth mobilisation committee for the party’s membership registration and revalidation.

“Our brother and friend, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, has joined our party in good faith. He is joining our party to come and add his own positive energy and make contributions to ensuring that APC is a party to beat. Remember, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode is a foundation member of the All Progressives Congress… Now he has decided to join our party, approached me and by the mandate giving to me by our party, I must not segregate,” the governor said.

ACF, Afenifere disagree as Senate knocks govs negotiating with bandits

The Senate has called on the Federal Government to direct states on the implementation of the National Livestock Transformation Plan, which is aimed at establishing ranches and eliminating open grazing.

The upper chamber of the National Assembly also berated governors negotiating with bandits, saying such negotiations were fuelling banditry.

The senators stated these on Wednesday during an extensive debate on a motion by the Deputy Senate Leader, Ajayi Boroffice, on the growing insecurity in all parts of the country. In its reactions, the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria supported the lawmakers’ suggestion for the establishment of ranches.
