Senator demands the unconditional release of young barber arrested in Kano for allegedly barbering anti-Islam hairstyle

Elijah Odeh, young barber arrested in Kano for alleged anti-Islam hairstyle

Senator Abba Moro, the Senator representing Benue South Senatorial District in the National Assembly, has called for the unconditional release of Elijah Odeh, a barber from his constituency who was arrested for alleged barbing anti-Islam hairstyles.

The senator in a statement on Sunday in Abuja said that the barber who is from Adum East, Obi Local Government Area of Benue State, was arrested by Hisbah corps who claims the hairstyle he made for two of his customers was insulting to Islam and the Holy Prophet Mohammed (SAW).

Elijah is currently being tried at the Gyadi-Gyadi Magistrate’s Court in Kano State and he is reportedly denied bail despite the intervention from Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State and Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State.

Senator Moro noted that the arrest and incarceration of the young barber was unconstitutional and violates his rights to live and do business in any part of the nation.

“None of my constituents will suffer unjustly anywhere, as long as I remain their Senator.

“I will also follow up on the case, with all the seriousness it deserves, until justice is served on Elijah, who I believe, has done nothing wrong by being creative and innovative.”
