Zulum lauds Military’s success in repelling insurgents attack in Marte

Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno has commended the troops of Operation Lafiya Dole for its success in dislodging Boko Haram terrorists in Marte Local Government Area of the state.

The troops on Saturday laid ambush against the insurgents when they attempted to attack troops’ location at the outskirts of Marte on Saturday, killing dozens of them in seven gun trucks.

Zulum made the commendation when he paid a visit to Marte on Monday to commiserate with the people over the attack.

2023: Okorocha explains why he’s championing new political movement

Former governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha, Monday, announced plans to form a new political movement in Nigeria ahead of the 2023 general elections.

Vanguard reports that Okorocha who had earlier given the hint when he visited Governor Nyesom Wike to commission projects in Rivers State said the plan is an answer to agitations and complaints across the country about the current state of the nation.

Speaking in Abuja, the Imo West Senatorial District representative said: “The movement for a new Nigeria has begun and we must come together, I mean progressive Nigerians to make the country work” Okorocha who is also a founding member of the All Progressives Congress explained further that the new group will not be like the APC which was hurriedly formed to take power from the PDP without much emphasis on the character of those championing the course.

Rivers govt begins admission into Madrid football academy

The Rivers State Government has commenced admission of students into the Real Madrid Football Academy in the state.

The selection process for interested persons which started yesterday in Port Harcourt is conducted by the State’s Ministry of Education in collaboration with the Real Madrid Football Academy.

In a statement in Port Harcourt yesterday, Faustina Nwanekwu, Media Assistant to the Commissioner of Education in state, Prof. Kaniye Ebeku, noted that the government was pleased with the development.

2023: IPOB vows to reject Nigerian President of Igbo extraction, says they are caliphate breed

The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, yesterday gave reason for its refusal to support Nigerian President of Igbo extraction, saying that all the people being prepared for the position are stooges that will be used against the interest of Ndigbo, Biafrans and the Biafra agitating groups.

IPOB also alleged that the people at the forefront of the agitation were people who openly worked against late Dr Alex Ekwueme, at Jos PDP convention for the candidature of the President of Nigeria under PDP in 1999, the brightest chance Ndigbo had for the position.

IPOB in a statement by its Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful alleged that what such people did to Late Dr Ekwueme was similarly, done by their likes to Mr Peter Obi, in 2019 when he contested with Alhaji Abubarka Atiku as his running mate, alleging that they conspired and did not support or campaign for Mr Obi despite being in the same political party – PDP, with him.

Bandits kidnap professor in Zaria, kill his son

Armed bandits on Sunday night invaded Wusasa in Zaria local government area and kidnapped the Wazirin Wusasa, Professor Aliyu Mohammed.

The Professor’s son, Abdulaziz Aliyu, was killed by the bandits, while his nephew, one Abba Kabiru, was injured and is receiving treatment in hospital.

Samuel Aruwan, Commissioner, Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Kaduna State, said on Monday night that security agencies have reported to the Kaduna State Government that armed bandits on Sunday, also attacked commuters on the road from Anaba village to Birnin Yero town in Igabi local government area.

I give you 7 days to vacate Ondo Forest Reserves, Akeredolu tells herdsmen

With the high rate of insecurity in the state, the governor of Ondo state, Rotimi Akeredolu, Monday ordered herdsmen to vacate the state’s Forest Reserves within seven days.

Akeredolu gave the order in a series of tweets, prohibiting the movement of cattle’s within the city and highways.

“These unfortunate incidents are traceable to the activities of some bad elements masquerading as herdsmen. These felons have turned our forest reserves into hideouts for keeping victims of kidnapping, negotiating for ransom and carrying out other criminal activities. As the Chief Law and Security Officer of the State, it is my constitutional obligation to do everything lawful to protect the lives and property of all residents of the State. In light of the foregoing, the following orders are hereby issued: All Forest Reserves in the State are to be vacated by herdsmen within the next 7 days with effect from today, Monday 18th January, 2021.
