Adebayo, not Tinubu dragged Fayemi into politics – APC chief

As the interest in the 2023 presidential ticket of the All Progressives Congress hots up, a chieftain of the party in Ekiti State, Karounwi Oladapo, on Saturday, debunked speculations that APC National Leader, Senator Bola Tinubu, brought Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi into politics.

Oladapo, a former deputy speaker of Ekiti State Assembly, said it was the Minister of Trade, Niyi Adebayo, who brought Fayemi into politics.

The former lawmaker, in a statement titled, ‘Putting the record straight: Fayemi as a politician,’ said, Fayemi joined politics as a member of the Alliance for Democracy and latter got the gubernatorial ticket of the Action Congress to contest the 2007 elections, through former Governor Adeniyi Adebayo, the leader of the party in Ekiti State.

I didn’t dream of becoming governor, says Diri

Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, said on Sunday that he never dreamed of becoming a governor.

He said this while speaking during worship service at the St. Peter’s Anglican Church in his Sampou community, in the Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area of the state.

A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Daniel Alabrah, quoted Diri as also saying he never knew his community would produce a governor while he was supporting the governorship aspiration of others..

ACF hails NAF for killing 50 bandits along Kaduna-Abuja highway

The pan-northern socio-political organisation, Arewa Consultative Forum, has commended the Nigerian Air Force for neutralising over 50 bandits suspected to be kidnappers terrorising travellers along Kaduna – Abuja expressway.

This was contained in a statement personally signed by the ACF’s National Chairman, Chief Audu Ogbeh.

The statement titled, ‘ACF congratulates President Buhari and Air Marshall Sadique Abubakar’, was made available by National Publicity Secretary of the Forum, Emmanuel Yawe, to newsmen in Kaduna on Sunday.

CBN defends naira with $4.37bn in three months

The Central Bank of Nigeria injected $4.37bn into the foreign exchange market in the third quarter of 2020 as part of efforts to ensure the stability of the naira.

The CBN disclosed this in its third-quarter economic report. The bank said through its periodic interventions in the forex market, it continued to boost the supply side of the market, as COVID-19 crisis weakened the private sector supply chain segment of the market.

Part of the report read, “During the third quarter of 2020, total foreign exchange sales to authorised dealers by the bank amounted to $4.37bn, a decline of 2.3 per cent from the level in the preceding quarter.

NIN: FG suspends officials over extortion at NIMC centres

The Federal Government has suspended workers fingered in extortion at enrolment centres of the National Identity Management Commission.

It was gathered that the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, ordered the immediate suspension of the staff members involved in extortion of applicants at the NIMC Bauchi and Kaduna state offices. The minister said enrolment for NIN was free of charge, adding that on no occasion should anyone pay to obtain an enrolment form or to have their biometrics captured.

The NIMC on Sunday said the directive came on the heels of public outcry that some personnel of commission, particularly at enrolment centres in Bauchi and Kaduna were capitalising on the rush for National Identification Number by the public to perpetrate fraudulent activities.
