Man sentenced to 6 months imprison, with option of N200,000 fine and 20 strokes of cane for allegedly insulting Jigawa State Governor

A Chief Magistrates Court in Dutse, Jigawa State, on Wednesday sentenced a man identified as, Sabi’u Chamo, to six months in prison with option of N200,000 fine, in addition to 20 strokes of cane, for alleged defamation against the Governor of Jigawa State, Alhaji Muhammad Abubakar.

Batula Dauda, the presiding Chief Magistrate, stated that the accused committed the offence of defamation of character in a post on his Facebook page, where he allegedly made a malicious statement about the governor.

Zainab Santali, the Public Relations Officer of Jigawa State Ministry of Justice, announced that the man pleaded guilty to the offence.
