COVID-19: El-Rufai Issues New Guidelines For Worship Centres, Others

Kaduna state Governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai has signed a new regulation that mandates all places of worships in the state to enforce facemasks, provide sanitisers and ensure physical distancing as part of new measures to contain the spread of COVID-19.

The regulation also stressed that the number of worshippers in Mosques and Churches will be capped while congregational worship should not exceed one hour.

A statement issued by the governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Communications, Muyiwa Adekeye stated that the new regulations also prohibits large gatherings and mandates that businesses must provide thermometers for temperature checks and sanitisers or hand-washing equipment and physical distancing measures within all facilities.

Boko Haram: 5 Soldiers Killed, 35 Civilians Kidnapped In New Attack

Five soldiers were killed when gunmen believed to be members of the Boko Haram insurgents ambushed a military convoy on Saturday.

AFP reports that 35 civilians were also kidnapped by the insurgent in another attack on Sunday.

“..the convoy was hit in northeast Borno state on Saturday, and militants also attacked a transport convoy in the same region a day before, kidnapping 35 people and killing one woman.” the report said.

Kanu Blasts South-East Govs Over Rejection Of IPOB’s Police

The leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu, on Sunday blasted the South-East governors for rejecting a security outfit launched by the secessionist group.

IPOB in a statement issued on Sunday by its Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, described the governors’ action as shameful.

IPOB had last week announced the inauguration of a security out named ” Eastern Security Network” to among other things, checkmate the activities of criminal herdsmen in ” Biafraland”. But the governor of Ebonyi State, Dave Umahi, who doubles as the chairman of South-East governors, had distanced the governments and people of the area from the IPOB security arrangement.
