BlackTuesday: They removed the CCTV, turned off the lights and opened fire on peaceful protesters who were holding the Nigerian flag and singing the national anthem

Soldiers open fire on peaceful protesters at Lekki, Lagos

Many protesters have been confirmed dead and many others injured in the Lekki area of Lagos State, as armed soldiers opened fire at peace #EndSARS protesters.

The attack appears to be premeditated as the CCTV at the area was first removed, and then the streelights around the premises turned off, but the soldiers opened fire at the citizens who were sitting, holding the Nigerian flag and singing the national anthem.

Many videos of the gruesome incidents have since gone viral on social media.

An eyewitness, Yekini Adedeji, confirmed the ugly incident in a statement published on Punch Newspaper.

“The soldiers are shooting sporadically, they put off the street light and the billboard to make the place to be in total darkness. They started shooting up but they shot at the protesters as well and I have seen two people that have sustained bullet wounds.

“At first, when the soldiers started shooting, the protesters summoned courage and refused to move. So, they sat on the floor and raised up their flag but along the line, two of the protesters were shot and people started running. There are no protesters at the tollgate and the soldiers have taken over the tollgate. I saw the soldiers myself,” he stated (as seen on Punch).

Army denies deploying soldiers to Lekki Tollgate

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Army has vehemently denied reports that soldiers were deployed to the Lekki tollgate.

The Army says that the reports linking soldiers to the tollgate gruesome incidents is fake news.

“No soldiers were at the scene,” the army stated, despite video evidence showing uniform soldiers shooting at the peaceful protesters.

Hired thugs attacked peaceful protesters
Earlier before the gruesome killing of citizens at the Lekki area, viral videos circulated on the internet, showing where black government Sports Utility Vehicles with hidden plate number, shipped in armed thugs in the Wuse 2 area of Abuja.

The thugs attacks peaceful protesters, injuring and killing them.

After the gruesome attack, the thugs were also seen jumping into one of the black vehicles driven by a man in suit (allegedly an operative of the Department of State Services).

Other vehicles including four buses filled with thugs joined in shipping out the thugs after they had finished attacking the protesters.

The DSS had however since denied the report.

Peter Afunaya, the spokesman of the secret service, noted that the DSS could not identify any of the persons in the videos, urging members of the public to ignore the rumours, adding that the DSS could not engage in such dishonourable act.

The statement titled, ‘DSS Not Aiding Attacks on #EndSARS Protesters’ read in part, “ Part of the untruth being spewed to the public is that some of its officials attached to certain VIPs aided thugs in this regard.

“In view of the false accusations, no DSS personnel has, so far, been identified to be involved in the alleged acts. It begs the question to conclude that SUVs and persons dressed in suits and sighted in conflict environments are of the DSS.”
