Ondo 2020: I’m Still In The Race, Not Stepping Down For Anyone – Jegede

Mr Eyitayo Jedege, the PDP governorship candidate in Ondo State, says he is still in the race, contrary to reports that he has stepped down for another candidate.

Jegede made the clarification in a statement made available to newsmen by the Spokesman of his campaign organisation, Mr. Gbenga Akinmoyo, on Thursday in Akure.

The governorship candidate told his supporters to disregard the rumour that he had collapsed his structure with that of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) candidate, Mr Agboola Ajayi.

He described the rumour as part of the desperate move by his detractors to deceive the general public and distract his supporters.

Ondo Polls: INEC Boss Warns Staff Against Temptations

Ahead of Saturday’s governorship election in Ondo State, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has urged the staff members to resist any form of temptation.

The INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, gave the charge on Thursday in Abuja. He recalled that about three weeks ago, on the eve of the Edo State Governorship election, he appealed to the staff of the commission to rise to the occasion and deliver a free, fair and credible process in accordance with the established policy.

According to him, the commission’s staff members, assisted by the security agencies and other critical stakeholders, did not spare any effort in ensuring the successful conduct of the election.

Alpha-Beta: Court Summons Tinubu

The former governor of Lagos State, Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been slammed with a law suit directing him to appear before the Lagos High Court within 42 days.

The claimant in the suit , one Mr. Oladapo Apara trading under the style Infiniti Systems Enterprises has also joined Mr. Akin Doherty and Alpha-beta consulting LLP as co-defendants in the suit filed 2nd October, 2020 at the Lagos high court, Igbosere.

The claimant is asking for an order compelling an account of all sums due to him from 2010 till date and an order tracing all funds and assets due to him from the inception of Alpha-beta as well for payment to him by the defendants, all sums adjudged to be due to him upon the submission of the account.

Attack On Fayose At Ondo Rally Deepens South West PDP Crisis

The infighting in the South-West zone of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has festered and is taking its toll on the party ahead of tomorrow’s governorship election.

Stakeholders of the party are currently engaged in a war of words over attack on former Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose, at the grand finale of the party’s campaign in Ondo town on Wednesday.

Daily Trust learnt that Fayose, while being ushered to the campaign podium, was attacked by a thug who removed his cap thereby creating a scene at the campaign ground.

Nigeria On Autopilot — Onaiyekan, Jega, Ibrahim, Others

John Cardinal Onaiyekan, Dr Hakeem Baba Ahmed, Gen. Martin Luther Agwai (rtd.), Prof. Attahiru Jega, Professor Jibrin Ibrahim, Dr. Nguyan Shaku Feese, Dr. Usman Bugaje, Adagbo Onoja, Amb. Fatima Balla, Ambassador Zango Abdu, Auwal Musa Rafsanjani, Chris Kwaja, Dr. Hussaini Abdu, Kemi Okenyodo, Jim Gala, Aisha Muhammed Oyebode and Tsema Yvonne said this in a joint statement on Thursday.

They spoke under the auspices of the Nigeria Working Group on Peacebuilding and Governance (NWGPG).

According to them, the Nigerian State is on autopilot and is currently not being governed.

“The result is that corruption has gone completely out of control, as there is a concerted effort to dismantle anti-corruption agencies and render them ineffective, while evidence of corruption is growing, prosecution has slowed down considerably,” they said.

2023: Tambuwal Denies Declaring For Presidency

Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto State has faulted media reports that he had declared for the 2023 presidency.

According to some social media reports, Tambuwal has picked Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers as his running mate.

However, Tambuwal via a statement by his media aide, Muhammad Bello, said he has not declared his intention to contest for the presidency as reported by some social media outlets.
