Oshiomhole withdraws application against his suspension. Could this be the end of his political relevance?

Adams Oshiomhole, the APC National Chairman

Adams Oshiomhole has finally given up his fight to return back to office as the National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Oshiomhole had following his sack from office by the Court of Appeal filed an application for stay of execution of the June 16, 2020 judgement of the court.

Naija Buzz News reported how the Appeal Court upheld the March 2020 ruling of the High Court which suspended Oshiomhole from office following his suspension in his ward in Edo State.

Oshiomhole and the Governor of Edo, Godwin Obaseki, had been battling for supremacy in Edo State. The fight led to the disqualification of Obaseki from contesting the APC Governorship primary in Edo. Many also believe that Oshiomhole’s ordeal is as a result of his role in the disqualification of Obaseki.

The former APC Chairman suspension further led to division in the APC. With some members of the National Working Committee loyal to Oshiomhole and others against Oshiomhole.

The crisis in the party led to the dissolution of the National Working Committee of the APC on the recommendation of President Muhammadu Buhari. The dissolution ended Oshiomhole’s hope to return back as APC Chairman.

The situation right now might just be the end of Oshiomhole’s political career.

Obaseki however still has a shot following his emergence as the Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the forthcoming Edo Governorship Election.

Obviously knowing all hope is lost, Oshiomhole through his lawyer, Ahmed Raji (SAN), withdrew his application and the three-man Appeal Court panel led by Justice Eunice Onyemenam consequently unanimously dismissed it.
