Giadom says he has President Buhari’s backing to convene APC NEC; NWC says he was not qualified

President Muhammadu Buhari and APC Governors

Victor Giadom, the suspended National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has stated that the APC National Executive Committee meeting would hold on Thursday.

He alleges that he has the backing of President Muhammadu Buhari to convene the NEC meeting.

However, the National Working Committee of the APC said that he was not qualified to convene the NEC meeting.

Naija Buzz News reported the suspension of APC National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, by the court. The court order also appointed Giadom who is not the next inline of succession to take over the affairs of the party.

However, the NWC of the APC ignored the court order and appointed Senator Abiola Ajimobi to act as APC Chairman.

Following the emergence of Ajimobi, Giadom went to court and received a 2 weeks extension of the court order.

Giadom was eventually replaced by the APC NWC with Worgu Boms.

Chief Giadom on Tuesday said that he had the support of President Buhari to convene the NEC meeting on June 25th, 2020.

“I, Chief Victor Giadom, having been duly authorised by a court order to act as national chairman of our great party and to preside over all meetings of the NWC and NEC hereby and with the consent of the President Muhammadu Buhari, (who is the leader of our party) reconvene the NEC meeting that was earlier billed to hold on the 17th of March, 2020, but was postponed. The reconvened meeting shall hold on Thursday, June 25th, 2020.

“In keeping strictly to the COVID-19 guidelines, the postponed NEC shall hold by virtual means. The codes would be sent by text to the phone numbers of all NEC  members.”

However, Hilliard Eta, the APC National Vice Chairman (South-South), while speaking in Abuja said that Giadom was not qualified to convene a NEC meeting, adding that he (Giadom) was no longer a member of the NWC.

He also alleged that there was no faction within the ruling party as was being reported in the media.

“It is not right to refer to 17 members, with 15 of them physically present and two who met with us virtually as a faction. This is the National Working Committee of the APC in Nigeria.

“I sit here on behalf of distinguished Senator Abiola Ajimobi as the acting chairman of this party. If Victor Giadom is arranging a NEC meeting, I believe that it is your responsibility as a member of the fourth estate of the realm to investigate his locus to find out whether he has the legal, the constitutional backing to be able to call a NEC meeting,” he added.
