The Federal Government has berated the Government of Oyo State for reopening schools in the state amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
Emeka Uwajiuba, the Minister of State for Education, described the action by the state as insensitive to the health of the people in the state.
Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State had ordered the reopening of schools across the state. He noted that Primary 6 pupils, Junior Secondary School 3, and Senior Secondary School 3 students would resume classes on Monday June 29, 2020.
Responding to Makinde’s order, the minister said that the Federal Government had schools all over the country, and for Makinde to open the schools was in the very least insensitive.
He urged parents to keep their children away to prevent contacting the COVID-19 virus.
The minister also appealed to parents and guardians whose children would be participating in the West African Examination Council (WAEC) to be patient as government make every necessary arrangement.
