Court bars Governor Obaseki from contesting PDP primary

Governor Godwin Obaseki officially joins PDP

A Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt has barred Governor Godwin Obaseki from contesting the Edo State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) primary elections.

A PDP governorship aspirant, Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama, who vowed not to step down for the governor, filed the suit against Obaseki.

He asked the court to stop Obaseki from contesting the primary election, saying that only those who purchased the forms within the stipulated time should be allowed to contest the primary.

Obaseki and his deputy, Philip Shaibu, were granted waiver to purchase the PDP governorship expression of interest and nomination forms following their disqualification by the APC from contesting the primaries.

The PDP Governorship primary is scheduled for June 25, 2020.
