Wike welcomes Obaseki to PDP

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has expressed happiness at the defection of Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, from the All Progressives Congress to the Peoples Democratic Party.

Wike tweeted a picture of Obaseki flashing a copy of the PDP’s constitution, with the caption, “Welcome to the @OfficialPDPNig.”

How PDP govs, chieftains endorsed Obaseki, Shaibu ticket

Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, will be allowed to run with his deputy, Philip Shaibu, on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party if he (Obaseki) emerges winner at the PDP primary slated for Tuesday, June 23, in Benin, Edo State.

Sources at the meeting, who spoke with Punch, said Obaseki pleaded that he be allowed to run with Shaibu if he eventually won the party primary.

The party leaders were said to have expressed support for the Obaseki/Shaibu joint ticket as the best for the coming governorship in the state.

Nigeria runs expensive govt, there’s need for national debate — Osinbajo

The Vice-President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo, has said Nigeria needs a national debate to examine the issues around the size and cost of governance, which has often been described as expensive and unsustainable.

He explained that it could be difficult for the government to do something about its cost by itself but that it is something that must be done.

Osinbajo said these while fielding questions by a former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria and immediate past Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi, during a webinar organised by the Emmanuel Chapel, themed, ‘Economic stability beyond COVID-19’, on Friday.

From Sanwo-Olu to HoS, none is a Lagosian –Bode George, others allege

A former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Olabode George, and two other members of the Omo Eko Pataki Forum, has alleged that the Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu; his deputy, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, and many top political office holders in the state are not natives of Lagos State.

The members of the forum claimed that the senators representing the state at the National Assembly – Oluremi Tinubu and Solomon Adeola; Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa; the Secretary to the State Government, Mrs Folasade Jaji; and the Head of Service, Hakeem Muri-Okunola, are also not from the state.

APC crisis: Party chieftain asks court to nullify Oshiomhole’s actions as party chair

A lawyer and member of the All Progressives Congress, Charles Ude, has asked the Federal High Court in Abuja to declare as null and void all the decisions taken by Adams Oshiomhole as the national chairman of the party from November 2, 2019, till June 16, 2020, when the Court of Appeal in Abuja affirmed his (Oshiomhole’s) suspension from office.

The plaintiff through his lawyer, Francis Ubalim, also asked the court to declare the Deputy National Secretary of the party, Chief Victor Giadom, as the only one that could act as national chairman of the party.

Obaseki’s defection’ll strengthen Edo PDP – Atiku

Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has congratulated Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State for joining the Peoples Democratic Party.

Atiku in a press statement by his media office on Friday expressed confidence that the people of Edo would be better for his choice.

“I am happy that you have finally exited the oppressive ruling party and joined the truly democratic party in Nigeria,” Atiku said.
