Court reaffirms Giadom as APC acting Chairman; pro-Oshiomhole’s faction search for his replacement

Adams Oshiomhole, the APC National Chairman

The Victor Giadom led faction of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has obtained a court order affirming him as the acting chairman of the APC.

Giadom who is the APC National Secretary had on Wednesday declared himself as the acting Chairman following the suspension of Adams Oshiomhole.

The High Court in the Federal Capital Territory that in March issued an order suspending Oshiomhole and appointing Giadom to act in his place also gave a new order reaffirming him (Giadom) as the acting chairman. The court also ordered him to preside over the APC National Executive Committee meetings.

Naija Buzz News reported that the faction loyal to Oshiomhole, led by Senator Abiola Ajimobi, disowned the Giadom led APC. The National Vice-Chairman (South-South), Hilliard Eta, alongside 15 other APC National Working Committee members in a statement noted that Ajimobi would lead the party in the absence of Oshiomhole.

The pro-Oshiomhole faction also went ahead to inaugurate its primary and appeal committees for the Edo State Governorship Election.

Oshiomhole had on Wednesday during a programme on Channels TV, begged Giadom to put God first before his personal ambition, saying that the likes of Giadom made the APC not field any candidate in Rivers State during the 2019 general elections.

Giadom had approached the court again on Thursday through his lawyer, Wole Afolabi, and received an order reaffirming its 16 March, 2020 order, which allowed him to act as national chairman. The March order was extended by 14 days.

Justice Samira Bature in her order on Thursday cited Rule 3 of the COVID-19 Practice Direction of the FCT High Court as she extended the order.

“Consequent and in line with Rule 3 of the COVID-19 Practice Direction of the FCT High Court, 2020, the order of this court made on the 16th day of March, 2020 is hereby extended for a period of two (2) weeks.

“Application is hereby granted as prayed,” Bature stated.

Oshiomhole’s faction plotting Giadom’s replacement

Meanwhile, the Ajimobi-led NWC has asked the South-South to nominate a replacement for Giadom.

Eta on Thursday while speaking to journalist said that the APC made a mistake by naming Giadom as the deputy national secretary, saying that he resigned to contest as deputy governorship candidate of the APC in Rivers State.

“So, in the wisdom of the NWC, they have now asked us in the South-South to bring forth a name to fill that vacancy that has been created. “I think we should be very clear on this; I think whatever mistakes, whatever missteps have been done cannot vitiate the grand law of the party, which is the Constitution of the party.”
