COVID-19 crisis hard to cope with, says Buhari

The President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday, said the socio-economic disruptions that had so far characterised the COVID-19 pandemic had proved too hard for many countries to cope with.

Buhari said the health systems of many nations had also been severely tested by the pandemic.

The President said these in a statement he presented at a virtual extraordinary China-Africa summit on Solidarity against COVID-19 co-hosted by the Forum for China-Africa Cooperation.

Victor Gaidom announces self as APC national chairman

The Deputy National Secretary of the All Progressive Congress, Victor Giadom on Wednesday, announced himself as the new Acting National Chairman of the party.

“I bring to your notice that on the 16th of March 2020, Hon Justice S.U Bature in suit no FCT/HC/M/6447/2020 had ordered that, with the earlier suspension of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, I, Chief Hon. Victor Giadom should act as the National Chairman of our great party.

“As your Acting National Chairman and presiding officer in the NWC, we therefore cancel the decision of the Screening and Appeal Committees of the former Chairman of the party on the Edo primary.”

Obaseki, Tambuwal, Secondus meet, perfect defection plan

The Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, who was disqualified by the party from contesting its June 22 governorship primary met with the governors of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party in Abuja on Wednesday night.

Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party Governors’ Forum, Aminu Tambuwal and the PDP National Chairman, Uche Secondus, were present at the meeting held at the Abuja residence of the Rivers State Governor, Nyesome Wike, in Asokoro.

Balarabe, kidnap kingpin Wadume are close friends –Ex-DCO

A former Divisional Crime Officer in charge of the Ibbi Police Station, ASP Aondona Iorbee, who was arrested for involvement in the release of Taraba kidnap kingpin, Bala Hamisu, aka Wadume, has disclosed that Capt. Tijjani Balarabe was a close acquaintance of the principal suspect.

The ASP, who has been dismissed from service for aiding Wadume’s escape, also said Balarabe asked him for the key to remove the handcuffs on Wadume after the three policemen and two civilians were killed by the soldiers.

Edo: INEC gives parties 10 days to conclude primaries

The Independent National Electoral Commission has urged political parties presenting candidates for the Edo State governorship election scheduled for September 19, 2020, to conclude their primaries within the next 10 days.

The commission said the Saturday June 27 deadline for this activity remained “firm and fixed”, as there would be no extension.

Popular radio personality, Dan Foster, dies of COVID-19

Popular radio presenter and host, Dan Foster, is dead.

PUNCH Metro gathered that Foster, aka Big Dawg, died on Wednesday at a medical facility in Lagos, where he was receiving treatment for COVID-19.

His wife, Lovina, confirmed to Channels Television that he was tested for the COVID-19 and the result came back positive on Tuesday and he died on Wednesday afternoon.
