APC disqualifies Governor Obaseki from contesting Governorship Primary Election

Governor Godwin Obaseki and his predecessor, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Adams Oshiomhole

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has disqualified Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State from contesting the APC primary election ahead of the main Governorship Election in the state.

Obaseki who is the incumbent governor was disqualified alongside two other aspirants.

According to the APC, Obaseki who was eligible about 4 years ago, is no more eligible.

No doubt, this is the doing of the APC National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, who has been at loggerhead with Obaseki.

The Adams Oshiomhole led APC National Working Committee on Friday said that the screen committee announced the disqualification of Obaseki from contesting the July 22 APC primary election.

Two other aspirants, Chris Ogiemwonyi and Mathew Iduoriyekenwen, were also disqualified.

According to Prof. Johnathan Ayuba, the Chairman of the screening committee, the governor was disqualified because the committee could not vouch for the authenticity of his Higher School Certificate.

There was allegation about the authenticity of his degree certificate, but the University of Ibadan which he attended confirmed that he indeed attended and graduated from the institution.

Oshiomhole recently survived an coup against him. There was a high court order suspending him from office, but an Appeal Court nullified the court order and reinstated him after President Muhammadu Buhari’s intervention.

The apparently never-ending war between the two Edo political heavyweights might cause the ruling party in the forthcoming Governorship Election. But it is all suspected to be a plan to ensure Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s presidential candidacy in 2023.
