APC, Tinubu, govs hail Gambari as Buhari unveils new Chief of Staff
The All Progressives Congress, while congratulating the President on the appointment of Prof. Ibrahim Gambari, promised to support and cooperate with the new Chief of Staff to ensure he succeeded in his assignment.
In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, the APC said the former Nigerian Permanent Representative to the United Nations was a round peg in a round hole.
Also, the National Leader of the APC, Bola Tinubu, lauded the appointment of Gambari, saying his intellect and experience had prepared him for the job.
FEC approves N47.2bn to boost electricity supply
The Federal Executive Council on Wednesday approved N47.2bn to boost power supply in the country.
It will supply additional 40 megawatts of power to the national grid, according to the Minister of Power, Mr Sale Mamman.
He told State House correspondents after the FEC meeting, which was held via video conferencing, that the 40 MW would be moved from the Kashimbilla Dam in Taraba State.
Borno suspends lockdown, asks churches, mosques to reopen
Borno State Government has called-off the lockdown in the state. The lockdown was imposed three weeks ago after the state recorded its COVID-19 index case.
But in a statement on Wednesday night, the Deputy Governor and state Chairman, COVID-19 Response Committee, Usman Kadafur, said the purpose of ordering a lockdown had been achieved.
“The lockdown is being suspended indefinitely to study the situation for the time being, however, where the situation escalates, the government should revert to the status quo,” he said.
NSCIA declares Thursday for nationwide prayers against COVID-19
The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs and Assembly of Muslims in Nigeria has called for prayers on Thursday (today) to end the COVID-19 pandemic “and rid all mankind from its devastative effects.”
A statement issued on Wednesday night by the chairman, Fatwa Committee of the NSCIA and chairman of AMIN, Sheikh Shariff Ibrahim Saleh Al-Hussaini, said the United Nations Secretary-General had endorsed and blessed the move, as well as most Muslim scholars and leaders worldwide.
Troops kill nine Boko Haram insurgents in Borno ambush
Troops of the Nigerian Army attached to Sector 1, Operation Lafiya Dole, have shot dead nine Boko Haram terrorists during an ambush staged for the insurgents along the Mainok-Jakana Road in the Kaga Local Government Area of Borno State.
The army said the ambush, which was carried out on Wednesday about 6pm, resulted in a firefight, adding that two soldiers were injured.
