Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has tested positive to COVID-19.
The governor made this known on twitter this evening.
“I just received my COVID-19 confirmation test result. It is positive. I am asymptomatic and will continue to self-isolate,” he said.
Makinde is the third governor to have tested positive to the deadly virus after Governor Bala Muhammad of Bauchi State and Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State.
The Oyo State Governor who released a statement on twitter noted that his deputy, Prof. Temitope Alonge, would take over the affairs of the state as well as head the COVID-19 Task Force in the state.
“I have designated Prof. Temitope Alonge, former Chief Medical Director of the University College, Ibadan, as the Head of COVID-19 Task Force while I recover fully.
“Please, continue to comply with all the directives from the COVID-19 Task Force. Stay home, stay safe,” he added.
