Dangote Urges FG to Allow Private Hospitals Run COVID-19 Test

President of Dangote Industries Limited, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, has advised that private laboratories should be allowed to run COVID-19 tests alongside government centres.

He said giving approval to qualified private laboratories would reduce the waiting period for suspected COVID-19 cases.

N’Assembly Leaders Meet Ministers, CBN Gov over 2020 Budget Review

The National Assembly leadership wednesday met with the Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Mrs. Zainab Ahmed; Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Chief Sylva Timipre; Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Godwin Emefiele; and other top government officials on the state of the economy and the planned review of 2020 Budget.

THISDAY learnt that following yesterday’s meeting in Abuja, the National Assembly, which had adjourned plenary for two weeks on Tuesday to curb the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic in the legislative complex, may reconvene next week to consider a downward review of the budget in view of the downward slide of the international oil market.

Atiku Pledges N50m to Fight COVID-19

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has pledged N50 million to a coronavirus relief fund for Nigerians.
He said the donation was being made on his behalf by Priam Group to form part of the stimulus package the federal government should create for Nigerians. He announced this in a statement he issued Wednesday.

COVID-19: FG Deploys Nigerian Researchers to Search for Cure

The federal government has deployed Nigerian science researchers to search for cure for COVID-19 pandemic.

Speaking exclusively with THISDAY, the Director General, Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu said three federal government agencies are working hard to contribute to scientific knowledge and solutions for COVID-19.

The three agencies are the Nigerian Institute for Medical Research (NIMR), Nigerian Institute of Pharmaceutical Research and Development (NIPRD), and the National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC).

CBN Unveils Modalities to Disburse N100bn Healthcare Credit Support

Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Wednesday released guidelines for accessing the N100 billion credit support facility for the healthcare sector announced last week by its Governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele.

The fund was announced as part of a raft of measures to cushion the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the economy.
