COVID-19: Speak out on status of Villa, PDP tells Buhari
The Peoples Democratic Party on Tuesday told the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), to address the country on the health and safety of those in the Presidential Villa following the COVID-19 pandemic.
The PDP National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, said in a statement the public was concerned about the health issues in the Villa following reports that Buhari’s Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari, had tested positive for coronavirus.
Two new cases in Lagos, Osun as coronavirus toll hit 46
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control on Tuesday announced two new cases of the novel coronavirus increasing the confirmed cases in the country to 46.
One of the two new cases was confirmed in Lagos State with the other case in Osun State
COVID-19: Massive economic crises loom, says CBN
The Monetary Policy Committee of the Central Bank of Nigeria on Tuesday said the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic would lead to massive economic crisis capable of throwing many countries into recession.
The committee said the COVID-19 pandemic would not only result in health crises, but also massive economic crises that would force even leading industrialised countries into recession.
FG alerts Nigerians to dangerous computer coronavirus
The Federal Government on Tuesday raised the alarm over the existence of an Android-based malicious and fraudulent coronavirus Ransomware application, which claims to provide updates on COVID-19 and infections near the user.
The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, in a statement by his Special Assistant, Mr Segun Adeyemi, said the Ransomware blocks access to users’ personal data and accounts and threatens deletion, unless users pay $100 in Bitcoin within 48 hours.
He said the Ransomware App, detected on the website www.coronavirusapp.site, “prompts users to download an Android App purportedly for coronavirus map tracking and heat map visuals.”
Coronavirus: Presidency restricts Villa coverage to 13 media houses
The Presidency has scaled down the coverage of the State House by media houses to only 13 in the wake of coronavirus spread to the seat of power.
The 13 media houses allowed to have access to the Villa henceforth are Deutsche Welle, NTA, Channels TV, TVC, FRCN, VON, NAN, The Sun, ThisDay, Leadership, Daily Trust, The Guardian and Vanguard.
The restrictions will be in place “until further notice as the coronavirus incident indicates.”
Tinubu backs calls for Lagos lockdown over COVID-19
The national leader of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu, on Tuesday expressed his support for the call for the lockdown of Lagos State and the country at large over coronavirus.
“We need to observe social distancing. It is a new culture that we have to abide with. I will support total lockdown if the government decides to do that. I am in support of it. There should be a total lockdown if the government observes that we are not complying,” he said.
