Buhari expresses sadness over Boko Haram killing of troops on Tuesday in Borno

President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday expressed sadness over the killing of troops by the Boko Haram terrorist group in Borno State.

Buhari in a statement issued by his spokesman, Mallam Garba Shehu, expressed grief and sorrow over the death of the soldiers.

According to the Defence Headquarters, 47 soldiers were killed on Tuesday in an ambush attack in Gorgi Allargano forest, Borno State. AFP had reported that over 70 soldiers were killed in the attack.

Buhari noted that the sacrifices of the gallant soldiers cannot be quantified and their sacrifices cannot go in vain.

Buhari commiserated with the families of the dead soldiers and those who sustained injuries, saying that he feels their pain because he knows what it means to be a soldier.

The statement noted that Buhari fully understands the extreme risks associated with the profession, saying that “despite the tragedies and incidents, we cannot allow anarchists and mass murderers to hold the country hostage.’’

President Buhari further appealed to the military not to allow the incident weaken their morale, saying that his government would continue to motivate and equip them adequately in order to cope with the complex challenges of the unconventional warfare.
