COVID-19 cases hit 31, Lagos, Kwara declare workers’ holiday
The coronavirus cases in the country increased from 22 on Saturday to 31 on Sunday.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, in its twitter handle on Sunday, said the cases included 22 in Lagos State, four in the Federal Capital Territory, one in Oyo State and one in Ekiti State.
The centre said the two in Ogun State, including the Italian index case, had tested negative and had been discharged.
Vice President Atiku Abubakar however revealed on Sunday night that his son tested positive to COVID-19, bringing the confirmed cases to 31.
APC crisis: Nabena announces self as acting Publicity Secretary
The Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress Mr. Yekini Nabena, on Sunday announced himself as the party’s acting National Publicity Secretary.
He explained that his action was based on a subsisting court order issued by a Sokoto High Court restraining the party from appointing or electing “Mallam Lanre Isa-Onilu or any member” into office except through a National Convention as enshrined in the APC constitution.
Address rumours surrounding Osinbajo, Bakare tells Presidency
Lagos-based preacher, Pastor Tunde Bakare, has asked the Presidency to address the rumours surrounding Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo.
“It is my considered opinion that all the rumour mills and things going around the Vice-President in this nation, the government must address this country and tell the plain truth about what is going on instead of letting people to continue to make guesses that are unprofitable for our nation or anybody,” Bakare, who is the Serving Overseer, Dominion Hall, Citadel Global Community Church (formerly Latter Rain Assembly) said this while delivering a sermon on Sunday.
There have been reports in the last couple of months about a strained relationship between Osinbajo and the cabal at the Presidency which culminated in the sacking and redeployment of some of the Vice-President’s aides.
Obaseki, Oshiomhole working to end rift – Gov’s aide
The Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, and his estranged political godfather, Adams Oshiomhole, have commenced consultations to end the political rift between them.
Obaseki’s Chief of Staff, Mr Taiwo Akerele, revealed this while responding to questions from reporters during an event to mark his 44th birthday in Benin, on Sunday.
Sin, disobedience to God responsible for COVID-19 – CAN President
The President, Christian Association of Nigeria, Rev Samson Ayokunle, on Sunday said arrogance of humans against God and constituted authority was responsible for the COVID-19 pandemic ravaging the world.
The cleric made this assertion in his special sermon, titled “Looking unto Jesus: I Shall Fear no Evil,” which was transmitted on New Frontier TV.
N3bn graft: EFCC to arraign ex-HOS, Oyo-Ita, eight others today
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission will on Monday (today) arraign the immediate past Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Winnifred Oyo-Ita, for N3bn graft.
She will be arraigned before Justice Taiwo Taiwo of the Federal High Court, sitting in Abuja.
The ex-HOS was sacked in September last year after about N600m was allegedly found in the bank account of her aide.
