APC Deputy National Chairman Shuaibu returns to secretariat, endorses Governor Obaseki for second term

Senator Lawal Shuaibu, the Deputy National Chairman of APC, North

Senator Lawal Shuaibu, the All Progressives Congress Deputy National Chairman (North), after months in suspension resumed today at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja.

Shuaibu’s return came following the lifting of his suspension by the Adams Oshiomhole-led National Working Committee.

Oshiomhole had as part of the first thing he did after narrowly surviving a coup against him announced the lifting of Shuaibu’s suspension.

The suspension of Shuaibu who is also a heavyweight member of the ruling party was one of the reasons behind the crisis rocking the party, a crisis that almost cost Oshiomhole his position as the National Chairman.

Shuaibu had repeatedly criticized Oshiomhole style of leadership. He had also repeatedly called for his resignation. His criticism of the APC chairman eventually led to his suspension.

Naija Buzz News reported that the APC chairman after resuming office lifted the suspension of Senator Shuaibu and Inuwa Abdulkadir, the APC National Vice Chairman (North).

Speaking earlier today, Shuaibu noted that he had no personal problem with Oshiomhole and that nobody suspended him.

Lawal Shuaibu had in 2019 described a disciplinary panel setup against him as illegal, saying that it lacks power to probe him.

He noted that his 2019 letter against the APC National Chairman was just an advice to strengthen the party and since it wasn’t welcomed, he decided to stay away and keep quiet.

“Nobody suspended me, it was just a fight that I wanted to avoid. I don’t want to continue the fight and that was why I kept quiet,” he said.

“There was never any war. My letter to Oshiomhole was not personal. To be honest, I was not fighting him. I was advising him just to save the party from total collapse.

“The structure of the party has become weakened as a result of the inability of the party’s leadership to re-position it. The party has become weakened from ward up to national. This was what I was trying to avoid.

“But as he (Oshiomhole) said, in the spirit of reconciliation, old things have passed away,” Senator Shuaibu told journalists.

Speaking about Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State who is also at war with the APC National Chairman, Shuaibu noted that Obaseki was the strongest candidate the APC should field.

“It does not make sense to bring another person to contest against the governor. Governor Obaseki is the strongest candidate of the APC we have in Edo State,” he said.

Remour has it that Oshiomhole is working hard to ensure what happened to Ex-Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State also happens to Obaseki ahead of the Edo Governorship Election.
