Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs defends President Buhari; says Bishop Kukah’s statement misleading

Alhaji Abubakar Sa’ad III, the Sultan of Sokoto

Reacting to Bishop Matthew Kukah’s recent statement against President Muhammadu Buhari’s government, the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) said that the bishop’s statement was misleading.

Ibrahim Aselemi, the Head, Media and Communications of the NSCIA, noted that Bishop Kukah was being economical with the truth.

The NSCIA noted that Kukah only misleading Nigerians in a bid to weaken citizens confidence on President Buhari.

“The comments by Rev Fr. Mathew Hassan Kukah, a leader we admire so much is very unfortunate. As religious leaders, our utterances should be guided by trio of national cohesion, security and love for our fatherland.”

“The comments are misleading and carefully crafted to weaken the confidence of Nigerians on Buhari’s government. Are the duo of Emefiele and Obiora Muslims from the North? Yet, Buhari appointed them Governor and Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria. Rev Fr Kukah is being economical with the truth,” Aselemi said ostensibly in defence of President Buhari.

Naija Buzz News had published how Bishop Kukah berated President Buhari, describing his government as unprecedented nepotistic and narcissistic government.

The Bishop noted that in Buhari’s Nigeria, it is more important to be a northern Muslim than a Nigerian to hold strategic positions.
