The South-East Governors Forum has requested the States House of Assembly in the region to make a law legalizing the establishment of regional security outfit.
The development was announced by Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State following a meeting by the South-Eastern governors.
Umahi who is the Chairman of the SE Governors Forum noted that they had written the Federal Government (apparently to avoid the controversies that earlier greeted a similar South-West Security Outfit, Amotekun).
“The forum received our South East Joint Security Committee and noted as follows; that the South-East Governors Forum had formed their South East Joint Security on July 28, 2019, and inaugurated her committee on joint security on August 31, 2019.
“Forum took a briefing from the chairman of the Joint security committee and are satisfied with all the arrangement that will lead to South East State Houses of Assembly to enact a law to back the South East security programme with a name to the outfit.
“The forum had written the Federal Government in this respect and at an appropriate time, we shall be inviting the Federal Government to note the details of our Joint Security Programme.”
The governors who were present at the Sunday meeting were; Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu, David Umahi of Ebonyi, Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia, Nkem Okeke, the Deputy Governor of Anambra State.
They all assured Ndigbo that their lives and properties would be well protected in the region.
