Emeka Ihedioha, the recently sacked Governor of Imo State, embarks in 8 days prayer and fasting alongside other Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members in Imo State for the nullification of the Supreme Court judgement and the restoration of his mandate as Governor of Imo State.
Emeana Nze, the Secretary of the PDP in Imo, on Saturday called for the pray and fast in a memo to members of the party in the state.
“During this period, all ward excos should request Mass in their local churches and assemble at the local government area party secretariats daily at noon for prayer and breaking of fast,” as they “await judgment on the review filed by Ihedioha”
Naija Buzz News had reported the sacking of Ihedioha and the declaration of All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Hope Uzodinma, winner of the 2019 Governorship Election in Imo by the Supreme Court in its January 14 ruling.
Ihedioha however disagrees with the Supreme Court judgement, saying that Uzodinma obtained victory by fraud and deceit, adding that the APC candidate misled the apex court. Consequently, he asked the Supreme Court to set the judgement aside.
In an application filed on Wednesday by his lawyer, Kanu Agabi (SAN), Ihedioha and the PDP alleges that Uzodinma and APC misled the Supreme Court into holding that 213,495 votes were unlawfully excluded from the votes they scored in the March 2019 election.
According to the petitioners, Uzodinma had admitted under cross examination that he personally computed the result that led to 213,495 votes allegedly excluded from his total votes.
Ihedioha noted that the additional votes when added was more than the total number of voters accredited for the election and some votes in certain polling units were even more than the number of registered voters.
“The fraudulent nature of the additional votes was demonstrated by the fact that the total votes cast as shown in the first appellant/respondent’s computation was more than the total number of voters accredited for the election and in some polling units more than the total number of registered voters.
“The fraud was also demonstrated by the fact that the result computed by the first appellant/respondent showed only the votes of the first applicant and the first appellant/respondent without specifying the votes scored by the other 68 candidates who participated in the election,” the application read.
The petitioners noted that Exhibit A1 shows that the total number of voters accredited for the election was 823,743, while the total numbers of valid votes cast was 731,485.
Consequently, the inclusion of 213,695 votes brings the total votes cast in the election to a number more that the total number of votes accredited for the poll.
