Ex-Governor Yari says Governor Matawalle cannot stop his pension

Ex-Governor Abdulaziz Yari of Zamfara State says that his successor, Governor Bello Matawalle, cannot stop his pension as a former Governor of Zamfara State.

He state this while speaking on Friday in Abuja when he visited the National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole. Yari had visited Oshiomhole at the APC National Secretariat to felicitate with the ruling party over the Supreme Court judgement nullifying of the election of Emeka Ihedioha and declaring Hope Uzodinma winner of 2019 Imo Governorship Election.

Naija Buzz News had reported how Governor Matawalle stopped the N10million benefits of the governor and how the Zamfara State House of Assembly nullified the law authorizing the payment of N10million monthly upkeep to ex-governor of the state.

The governor had accused his predecessor of paying himself N360million from the state pension funds shortly after he left office in 2019.

“About the pension policy, government cannot change this policy for now but I promised I won’t say anything for now.

“I don’t want to comment on what is happening in Zamfara State but a time will come when everything will be put on the table. For now, we will allow him so that he will not say we are distracting him from governance,” Yari said.

Speaking on the challenges of insecurity in the nation, Yari who battled bandit during his time as governor said;

“As a one-time Chief Security Officer of the state,  I know what the issue of security entails. I know the predicament of the security and that of  state when it comes to the issue of security.

“So, I don’t know whether  to continue to change security chiefs will be the solution or getting the right equipment for them or facilities to deal with situation, ” he added.

Speaking further on the Supreme Court judgement on the Imo State Governorship poll, Yari accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of double standard for hailing the apex court ruling on Zamfara State election, but criticised the same court for Imo State ruling.

“We have come to visit the party’s National Chairman on the issue of Supreme Court after the judgment  and also intimidation by the opposition PDP who are making noise about the issue.”

“If the PDP makes noise on issue of Imo what about Zamfara, what are we going to say, did we make any protest?  We did not come out to the streets to protest after   Nigerians said the judgment of Zamfara was a miscarriage of justice,” he said.
