President Muhammadu Buhari earlier on Tuesday in Abuja says that he is surprise that Boko Haram continue to exist for so long.
Buhari stated this when he received Governor Abubakar Sani Bello and a delegation of the Eminent and Respected Citizens of Niger State at the Presidential Villa.
The group led by Governor Bello visited President Buhari to thank him for his interventions on infrastructure, security and appointment of the state indigenes into key government positions.
“I was taken aback by what is happening in the North West and other parts of the country. During our campaigns, we knew about the Boko Haram. What is coming now is surprising,” Buhari said according to his aide, Femi Adesina.
The president further noted that the military will go harder on deadly armed bandits whose evil activities had led to death of thousands of Nigerians across the nation.
“It is not ethnicity or religion, rather it is one evil plan against the country.
“We have to be harder on them. One of the responsibilities of government is to provide security. If we don’t secure the country, we will not be able to manage the economy properly,” Buhari said.
The president noted that the activities of the bandits had forced farmers to abandon their farms, adding that it also affected agricultural produce in some parts of the country.
Buhari also spoke on the discovery of oil and gas in the Chad Basin, Bauchi, Gombe, Benue trough and Bida.
He noted that the discovery would help bolster efforts to strengthen the nation’s economy.
