Armed Fulani herdsmen invaded my farm and shot at me – Governor Ortom

Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State

Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has narrated how he escaped death at his farm. He revealed that some Fulani herdsmen had invaded his farm in Makurdi, the capital of Benue State, and shot at him and other people in the farm.

The governor who spoke on Radio Benue during a programme, “Issue of the Moment”, further revealed that he called troops of the Operations Whirl Stroke before the herdsmen ran away.

“I was on my farm within Makurdi town last week when some herdsmen shot at me and shot the livestock guards who were on the farm,” he said.

“I have to inform the Operation Whirl Stroke before the herdsmen ran away” he added.

Ortom expressed worries that the Fulani herdsmen were armed with sophisticated weapons than the security men.

“Many of these herdsmen carry AK47 and even AK49, you know that the latter is superior to the former and this is what some of the herdsmen are carrying,” the governor said.
