Bello Matawalle, the Governor of Zamfara State, who recently threatened to arrest his predecessor, ex-governor Abdulaziz Yari, over killings in the state, has given conditions for the ex-governor to visit the Zamfara.
Matawalle who accused Yari of responsibility for the recent killings in Zamfara says that Yari could visit if he would be law-abiding.
According to the governor, Yari could visit his hometown provided he would not sabotage the efforts of his government to ensure peace in Zamfara.
Governor Matawalle in a statement through his Director General of Media and Publicity, Alhaji Yusuf Idris, noted that Yari was not actually barred from coming to Zamfara, he was only warned not to be a stumbling block to the security arrangement in the state.
“What he said was that he should not be a stumbling block to the security arrangements put in place by the present administration.
“We recognise the fact that former governor Yari has the freedom of movement, especially in Zamfara his home state. Matawalle never said he should not come to Zamfara, but one thing for sure is he has to respect the law of the land particularly as it relates to political gathering which has been banned now. If he tries that again, he will face the consequences.”
“I challenge these wailers to point to any part of the state that was under threat during their time and is still in such condition because of kidnapping, rustling and all other forms of banditry.”
Alhaji Idris noted that banditry in Zamfara had become history since when the new governor took over the state.
