Zamfara State Governor, Bello Matawalle, has threatened to arrest his predecessor, Ex-Governor Abdulaziz Yari, if killings continue in the state.
The governor made the statement at the Zamfara Government House in Gusau while receiving some firearms surrendered by repentant bandits on Friday.
Matawalle who vehemently condemned the killing of innocent people in the state alleges that it was anytime the ex-governor visited the state that attacks and killing occur.
“I decided to take this action against the former governor because I observed that whenever he visited the state, there would be attacks and killing of innocent people immediately he left,” the governor said.
He further noted that the recent killing in a village called Karaye was the third time such incident would occur when the ex-governor visited. The governor described it as too much coincidence.
“Security is the responsibility of all and I wonder why some people such as the former governor and his followers are not happy with the current development in which the security of the state has significantly improved.”
He consequently ordered security agencies to arrest and prosecute anybody found responsible for the recent killings, saying that he would not allow any failed politician (referring to Yari) to destroy the state.
