The Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) has suspended six students who assaulted a female undergraduate student.
Olaniyi Popoola, Jessica Nandi, Faith Oluwadare, Cecilia Alao, Taiwo Emmanuel and Emmanuella Ajuwon, were suspended for brutalizing their fellow student in one of their hostels.
The video showing how she was brutalized by her mates which was posted on the internet was vehemently condemned. The issue consequently reached the university authority which suspended them indefinitely.
Report has it that the victim gossiped about one of the six and as a response, they decided to beat her up gruesomely.
As they beat her, she begged them to leave her but they continued until she ended up in the hospital.
Here’s how the university responded in a statement issued by Adegbenro Adebanjo, FUTA Deputy Director of Corporate Communications;
“Following the ugly incident of bullying of a female student by some students and as a result of preliminary investigation, the students have been placed on an indefinite suspension with effect from Monday, November 18, 2019.
“As a consequence of their suspension, they are precluded from all academic-related activities indefinitely and barred from the university and its precincts forthwith.
“At the conclusion of the ongoing investigation, the full weight of the law of the university, as contained in the handbook and oath of matriculation, which all the students were made to sign and subscribe to, will be visited on those found culpable.”
